Defensive rookie of the year when the season is done.

If you win Defensive Player of the Year are you also automatically awarded Defensive Rookie of the Year?

Von Miller is also having a good year something like 5 sacks and 18 tackles.

Sadly though, none of those sacks were 'key' in winning any of Denver's games thus far (specially big ones); and due to the fact that Miller isn't on a playoff-potential/winning team, Aldon will remain 2 steps ahead of him in media attention...

Good point

He's also been benched during games because of his play. He has an amazing first step and reminds many people of Derrick Thomas of the Chiefs (sad day) but teams have began to exploit his speed and use it against him. On multiple occasions the chargers went right at Miller counting on him to get too far upfield before diagnosing the play and both resulted in large gains. He will eventually become a great player but right now the game is still very fast for him and he is having the typical rookie growing pains and its costing his team.

Aldon is in a better position because he has the size to hold up at the point of attack and uses his arms more than his speed to beat blocks which keeps him in better position while trying to diagnose the play. While sacks is a glory stat as of right now the top two contenders for DROY are Aldon and Kerrigan. If the niners keep up their dominance and Washington falls apart, it'll be Aldons award to lose if everything continues as it has... which it wont, season is still young and full of surprises.

What is in Aldon's favor is that if the team is trailing and need to catch up, they need to pass, so he can pin his ears back. In Denver's case, the other side will probably run it more to kill the clock so he won't get on the field as much.
OLB's, DE's and DT's should have 60K built into their contracts to offset the QB fines. It can be like insurance, only payable if you need it.

That fine is BS. Aldon was ON THE GROUND already, having been PUSHED TO THE GROUND by the lineman who was blocking him. He didn't dive for a low hit -- that's a fineable offense in my opinion. The only thing he's guilty of is lunging foward and hitting the QB. He just happened to be on the ground when he did it. What's he supposed to do? Grab the QB's buttshanks?

That is the worst fine in the history of the NFL, period. It just goes to prove the powers that be are asleep at the switch.

First, Aldon Smith is doing good work.

He may or may not get DROY, but it does look like he will be a finalist for the award.

Not bad for an reach.

Not supposed to hit the QB at the knees man, and he clearly grabbed him by the knees and twisted. It's his own fault.

I can understand that they want to protect the QB, but I guess he's supposed to just let the qb throw in that situation? Oh well, I'm sure the yorks can throw in a bit when he gets his next fat contract once the rookie one is up.
I'm with you man, I think the rule is b******t. I just believe that if they're rules, gotta follow them.
