The only good thing Joe Thomas did was clean house so that Walsh didn't have to be the bad guy. Not sure how much Davis liked the WCO as it was a short passing approach and he always went with the long ball, but he did respect Walsh. My strongest memory of those days is being disappointed that someone from the midwest bought our team! Couldn't believe no SF millionaire would step forward. Turned out pretty well to my surprise!

I think a lot of people forget how the NFL was before Bill Walsh. Let me remind you. You were either a running team or a passing team. Bill Walsh took both concepts and created HIS OFFENSE. I still remember people like Brent Musburger saying " It seems rather boring but this 49er offense is very effective " The very early 80's and the NFL didn't know what Bill was doing. It's funny how "BORING" is what wins these days.
