Alex Smith did fine today, that INT notwithstanding.
His passer rating last week was a 90.4 that felt like a 66.7 a lot of times.
This week his 99.1 felt like 120 a lot of times.
Props to you Alex.

We win in spite of all that if Alex doesn't throw the dumb pick. EVERYONE was right on that play except Alex. From that point forward the wind went out of our sails and it was Dallas's game to lose.
Make all the excuses you want, but imo we win if Alex doesn't throw that pick.
Niners have a 10 point lead in the 4th after the pick. The pick hurt but it did not lose the game.

Ya. Alex played well. He had a rough series or two in the 3rd but came back when it was tied to throw the TD to Walker.
Don't understand all these radio talk show hosts that keep saying Harbaugh is calling the game the way he is cause he doesn't trust Alex. I don't believe that one bit. And if that is the case then Alex shouldn't be starting.

I mentioned this in another thread, but notice the play that was called for Alex in the next series after the INT, a long pass play down the sideline. Alex got sacked right before he could make that throw, but goes to show how Harbaugh is taking a different approach to QBs after a bad play, as opposed to our previous HCs.

Yup. The secondary giving up two big catch-and-runs was probably the biggest thing that hurt us.

he had a GREAT first half.....a bad second half however when it counted and when we needed him. We needed him on more than one occasion in the second half. He got a TD to Walker on the first play after that INT by Brock...but besides that....nothing else.
imo, he didn't have a fine overall game.

Harbaugh obviously trusted Smith enough to air it out for most of the game. But the offensive line's inability to run block or pass block with consistency makes having a pass-heavy offense impossible.

he did NOT trust Alex to "air it out" in the second half...when we needed first downs.

what's your point? did we not start the game with 4 straight passes? did we not "open up the playbook" as everyone was calling for? Why would he stop trusting Smith in the second half? did you watch the game? No matter how ineffective overall it was, our offense was ONLY effective when Smith was throwing the ball. Why wouldn't he trust Smith to throw all of a sudden in the second half? Your post makes ZERO sense.

Keep in mind he turned in a solid performance without Crabtree & Edwards on the field. Only bad play was the INT. Very few misfires on his throws. The sacks killed us. The o-line needs to get their s**t together.

Or he didn't trust the oline...or the offense as a whole?

the offensive line is the biggest weakness on this team. So many early round draft picks. f**king pathetic.

4 of the Cowboys 6 sacks and heaviest pressure were in the 2nd half (to include one in OT).

AGAIN we were 0-6 in the second half on 3rd down conversions......this was all during when the Cowboys started coming back. We had numerous opportunists to extend the lead for good....but no.
besides the TD to Walker, what do you remember from the second half from Alex? He got sacked alot but mostly from coverage sacks...he held on to the ball too long on a couple of situations....resulting in us having a 3rd and long.

you are right. our ineffectiveness on third down must mean that Harbaugh doesn't trust Smith. He doesn't trust Smith so much he would rather willingly fail on third down than ask him to do anything.
We were ineffective. But, as someone who watched the game, I thought it was pretty clear that Harbaugh wasn't hiding Smith, which is what this thread is about.
