We also saw, although you have to look more closely, a quantum difference in the blocking schemes of the OL AND technique between the NO and Oakland games. I will suggest that despite the fact that Oakland has a much better DL than NO, Rachal played a near flawless game against the Raiders. What that suggests to me is that Rachal needed better coaching and the OL needed a scheme that actually gave them an advantage instead of a disadvantage as per Nolan/Sing.
Watching interior line play is not very glamorous, however, there is a lot to be seen there if one watches closely. The OL play against Oakland versus NO was not only more effective, it was technically and strategically quite different. Consequently, until I see more of Rachal under this different system, though I have been very frustrated with his poor play, I am not willing to jump on the trade bandwagon just yet.
Chilo did have a great game against Oakland. I don't think anyone is debating that. The problem is, it's preseason. Add to that the fact that Oakland has been our punching bag the last few years, even when we've sucked, and all-of-a-sudden you realize that one preseason game against the raiders doesn't negate 3 years of suckage.
Maybe the scheme is helping Chilo become a legitimate starter, but when you look at a guy like Adam Snyder, who played in the same crappy Singletary scheme and did a better job than Chilo last year, you have to realize that Harbaugh's coaching and schemes could probably help Snyder be even better than Chilo will be under the same tutelage.
If Chilo does well, more power to him. Has he done anything outside of one preseason game to make anyone think he will do well? Absolutely not.
If he gets traded and we get any sort of value in return, it's a win for us.
