You heard it here first, we pull off the biggest upset of the season and beat the Eagles. Everything points to them winning, especially the 10am start in Philly... but they have no run defense and aside from Nnamdi, tiny corners. Gonna need a couple good hits on Vick early, but if we can suck them into a time-of-possession type game with VD, Gore, Walker and Crabs (assuming Nnamdi is on Braylon so he will be shut down) , this will be the year statistics will begin to even out. Can't wait for the ridiculous odds in Vegas, I won a free bar tab (instead of payin ~$50) a week ago and figured that money will go on the game with the most odds stacked against us, this is that game.

Everything will come down to injuries. If we can keep Alex and Frank healthy for the majority of the year, then we have a legit shot at +.500. Without them, we will probably stumble to 5 or 6 wins.
Seahawks: Win - Better team both offense and defense. Rice and Miller must be contained.
Cowboys: Win - Surprise win for the East Coast Media. Romo is crushed by Aldon and Ahmad hitting him at the exact same time. Again, another good test in terms of WR and TEs.
@ Bengals: Win - We start out 3-0, but it's ugly. I hate the games we are 'supposed' to win. But Dalton is too green.
@ Eagles: Loss - A loss if Vick is QB, a win if he's injured.
Bucs: Loss - They are a very balanced team, should be a close one, but I'd trust their team to win a close one vs. ours .
@ Lions: Loss - This year is Stafford's coming out party. He has a big day against us and we have no answer for Calvin Johnson.
Browns: Win - Another ugly win, but I'll take it. McCoy has impressed up until this point, but overall, the team just doesn't have enough talent yet.
@ Redskins: Win - Yea! we play another disaster team, and put together another win streak.
Giants: Win - This game is at home and I think Alex has the best game of his career in a shootout with Eli. This game puts the 49ers on the map in terms of power rankings.
Cardinals: Win - Kolb will be good, but we'll beat them at home. Plus, with their porous O-line, I wouldn't be surprised if he's injured by this point.
@ Ravens: Loss - Plain and simple, they are a better team and we are on the road on a short week.
Rams: Win - We win a close one, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bradford goes off in this game. But it's a home game against the Rams, so it's a W.
@ Cardinals: Loss - If Kolb is healthy, then they should be the favorites here at home.
Steelers: Loss - Too many weapons for Roethlisberger, even though its a home game.
@ Seahawks: Loss - Until we can prove we can win in Seattle, I say loss. Anthony Davis will have nightmares before that game.
@ Rams: Loss - Here we are, 8-7 and playing another 8-7 team for the right to be the first round fodder. Bradford beats out Alex
Seahawks: Win - Better team both offense and defense. Rice and Miller must be contained.

I'm not sure where the sudden stroke of optimism came from, but only a week ago, most were projecting a 6 win season. Could the board be overreacting to the Raiders victory? Honestly, I don't know.
What I do know is that this offense is not going to be very good the first half of the year. Too many moving parts, young, inconsistent, undisciplined players (Crabtree, Rachal, A. Davis, Morgan) , and a movement to the WCO. And, as much as I like Alex Smith the person, I can't believe he is going to deliver a bunch of wins for the team. I believe the second half of the season the offense will improve (as it did last season).
Again, the big turnover on defense is a concern. I know that fans automatically believe this coaching staff is superior from the first snap over the previous coaching staff (think beyond the head coach). I am not so sure that is the case, especially as many are transitioning from the college game.
So, while the preseason breeds enthusiasm since it is the new start to the year, this is still a project team that is highly incomplete. The Rams and Cards made dramatic improvements this offseason, and I don't see the same dramatic changes for the Niners in player personnel.
A 6-10 record for last place in the NFC West is probably our destiny.

You didn't answer the issue or question I presented. How can a team that's presumably improved in the WEAKEST area...NOT get at least 1 or 2 more wins??
Our biggest weakness last year was Coaching/Leadership/Game Planning/Preparation (all one category)
Second weakness was inconsistency at QB. But we've had that before and still ended up 8-8.
I don't understand why 6-10 is "realistic" when it's really not. If anything...7-9 is probably more realistic.

Seahawks: Win - There's absolutely no way we'll lose the opening at home against any QB on the seahawks
Cowboys: Loss - Unfortunately Alex Smith won't be able to take advantage of their weak secondary. Also, too many weapons on the offensive side of the ball for our defense to handle
Bengals: Win - grind out a low scoring win on the road
Eagle: Loss - Blowout loss. Just like the cowboys game, too many weapons for our defense to handle.
Bucs: Loss - Honestly this one is a toss up because they dont have an explosive offense, but i would lean towards a loss.
Lions: Loss - Their dline will be too much for us to handle. also their offense has too much speed for our defense.
Browns: Win - While the browns will be an improved team this year, i dont see him coming into SF and getting a W
Redskins: Win - No QB
Giants: Win - Not scared of this team. they wont be able to run against us and we will win in a low scoring game.
Cardinals: Win
Ravens: Loss - this will be a blowout on national tv
Rams: Win
Cards: Win
Steelers: Loss
Seahawks: Win
Rams: Loss
We end up 9-7

San Francisco 49ers 2011 Schedule
1 Sun, Sept. 11 vs. Seattle Seahawks - LOSS - Too little time to install the offense. Pete Carroll will want revenge. T-Jax might give the game away. 50/50
2 Sun, Sept. 18 vs. Dallas Cowboys - LOSS - Dallas has way too much talent in the passing game. D Ware will abuse our young O-line.
3 Sun, Sept. 25 at Cincinnati Bengals - WIN - We have a better QB situation. Not often we'll have that advantage.
4 Sun, Oct. 2 at Philadelphia Eagles - LOSS - Start all Eagles on your Fantasy Team.
5 Sun, Oct. 9 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - LOSS - Great young team, with a great young coach that will only get better this year. Everything we want to be.
6 Sun, Oct. 16 at Detroit Lions - WIN - Detroit is talented, but still Detroit. Can't stop the run. Their weak O-line will let them down.
7 Bye
8 Sun, Oct. 30 vs. Cleveland Browns - WIN - Better team than people think but still a year away. The Niners own slower backs like Hillis.
9 Sun, Nov. 6 at Washington Redskins - WIN - Decent defense, but nothing noteworthy on offense.
10 Sun, Nov. 13 vs. New York Giants - LOSS - Osi wont be there, but the pass rush will still own us. H. Nicks will abuse anyone in our secondary.
11 Sun, Nov. 20 vs. Arizona Cardinals - WIN - If we can get decent pressure on Kobb, this should be a cake walk at home.
12 Thu, Nov. 24 at Baltimore Ravens - LOSS - This brother vs brother game will be close. Good defensive battle. Joe Flacco > Alex Smith/CK7
13 Sun, Dec. 4 vs. St. Louis Rams - LOSS - Sam Bradford will become the QB to beat in the NFC West for the next decade. Not saying much...
14 Sun, Dec. 11 at Arizona Cardinals - WIN - They have no one else besides Fitz and have paid him as such.
15 Mon, Dec. 19 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers - LOSS - We're at home, that's the only positive point I could think of in this match up.
16 Sat, Dec. 24 at Seattle Seahawks - LOSS - Always hard to win at Quest Field.
17 Sun, Jan. 1 at St. Louis Rams - LOSS - Sam Bradford completes the sweep and takes the Rams to a division title.
The 2011/2012 49ers finish 6-11
But with a full offseason, will be a much better team in 2012/2013.

Have to say I agree with you (although I'm even a little more pessimistic). I think it'll take about half a season for both the offense and defense to gel -- until then, we'll see limited playbooks, often executed poorly -- since other teams will take advantage of our inexperience with the new schemes, even some we should not ordinarily lose to (e.g., Washington). In our own division, it's clear a lot of posters underestimate Arizona and Seattle. Despite questionable quarterbacking corps, I think these are going to be very tough opponents (and if the Niners underestimate them, watch out).
The other thing is that nobody has mentioned injuries (except what they expect us to inflict on opponents). The Niners are a very thin team without much depth at key positions (e.g., QB), and normal attrition will make late-season wins hard to come by.
I think we end up losing a couple of games we should win, and winning maybe one we should lose. I hope we do better than 5-11, but I don't think we lose more than 11.

I think we end up losing a couple of games we should win, and winning maybe one we should lose. I hope we do better than 5-11, but I don't think we lose more than 11.

Go check the pymwymi thread, and check the dates.

There are always game we should win and games we shouldn't win. The great teams minimize on the "should have win" games and maximize on the "shouldn't win" games. Here is to the 49ers surprising me and winning more games than losing.

Then, in the playoffs:
Wildcard round: #2 seed, b***hes. we rest
Divisional: ATL-W--revenge for the last two years
NFC Championship: GB--W--Alex Smith pees on Rodgers face
Super Bowl: PITT--W--Big Ben rapes a girl before the game, is suspended, and then Willis rapes Charlie Batch.
I'll give you 5 to 1 odds that this exact scenario plays out
