Only thing that might be able to help the secondary is a monster year from rookie Aldon Smith 10+ sacks which I think he can get. If the ball bounces the right way 9-7 but worst case is an ultra competitive 6-10. But either way for the first time in a long time I do believe the team is actually getting better when the coach says they are unlike when Mike nowin and Dingleberry would say they were.
Second thought secondary doesnt look to bad on paper with Goldson coming back

Not really, not compared to last year.
"weaker" opponents outside of NFC west last year:
Raiders, Panthers(should have won this one), broncos
This year:
Bengals, browns, Lions, Redskins.
Lions and maybe browns could surprise. But they're winnable games. Last year those first 5 games were just brutal, by the time we faced the panthers our team was in shambles.
This year some of our easier games are in the first 1/2 of the season so if we come out with a lot of energy we can win those, which would give the team a lot of confidence to try to upset a few of those tougher teams we're facing toward the end of the season.
It is too early to say, but I like the way the schedule looks.
UMM:
Vs Cowboys
@ Philly
Vs Bucs (tough team)
Vs Giants
@ Baltimore
Vs Steelers
Hell out of those teams I see us only beating TB. That's tough
Am I the only one who thinks we can beat the cowb***hes? They went 6-10 as well, their secondary isn't very good, Jason garrett sucks, and they pretty much did nothing to get better this offseason. Only thing that worries me bout them is Dez and Miles. Other then that I like our chances

Still have a talented Defense despite their secondary issues. They have stud LB's & D-Line that will give us some issues.
On Offense they have a Better QB, a Solid TE, and a good RB with some good WR's.

If we keep Phony Homo under pressure all day, we should beat the brokebacks...I mean cowboys.

If Harbaugh can get our offense to produce points, and our secondary can get stops on 3rd downs (especially through the air), we have an excellent opportunity to take the West this year. I just a have a good feeling about this coaching staff this year. On top of that they did pretty well in Free Agency, something most of us questioned each year from the previous coaching staffs. With Goldson back, our secondary is pretty good.
But again....lets see how the first pre-season game pans out. I just hope by the opening home game (vs Hawks), that we are all on the same page and the niners showcase what they can do.

in the nfl the team with "more" talent doesnt always win games (example seattle, chiefs, panthers, bucs, rams). we definitely have a chance if we come out hungry

Week 1: W against Seattle at Home
Week 2: L against Dallas at home only because Dallas will be on thier high horse like they always are at the beginning of the season. Once they realize Philly and NY are better than them, they will fall off around midseason.
Week 3: W at Bengals pretty much agree with the OP
Week 4: L at Philly. BUT I don't personally think Philly will be that great. Remember when Vick was an animal for that one year on the Falcons and then he sucked the following years after that? Teams figured him out. Maybe by then Harbaugh and Co will have a good gameplan against him.
Week 5: This is really a toss up to me. Home against the Bucs. Who knows if josh Johnson will progress or regress from last season. If he progresses, then we lose. They are a decent team that nobody on here gives respect. I would say we lose this in a tight one.
Week 6: At Detroit. I think we win this because we have to, but it won't be easy. Matt Stafford was always a good QB in my eyes who has been riddled with injuries. If he stays healthy, watch out for the Lions. Yea I said it.
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: Home against the Browns is a win.
Week 9:At Redskins will also be a win. They will be the bottom feeder of that division yet again.
Week 10: Home against the Giants will be our first upset! I call it now. This will be the game we are supposed to lose, but we will end up winning.
Week 11: Home against the Cardinals, who I think will have a good season as well. I say we win this one because we are home, but will lose at Arizona. I'm not saying the Cardinals will be good because of Kolb, but he will do enough. He has excellent wide receivers to throw to and a decent running game. He's almost in a no fail situation, unless he himself sucks it up.
Week 12: At Baltimore for thursday night! We will come out pumped and play them hard til the very end. Brother 2 Brother rivalry, we will lose. The Ravens are a good team and are on the brink. At this late in the season they will need this victory to keep up with Pittsburg. I wish I could say we will win this, but chances are we won't
Week 13: Home against Rams. We will win because of home field advantage. I'm hoping Sam Bradford has his sophmore slump. He is also a good QB who will give us trouble for years to come.
Week 14: At Arizona. Like I said before, we will lose this. I'm thinking at this point in the season this game will most likely determine the outcome or the division lead for our division. I think it will be between us and the Cards. I'm hoping we win this and we very well can. But I think we lose.
Week 15: Home against the Steelers. Maybe another upset? Maybe not. Chances are we will lose. The odds are against us losing so I will put this as an L. Hopefully we can get a few upsets like this one throughout the year.
Week 16: At Seattle. I say we crush the Seahawks for once in thier own home. By this point in the season I think they will suck and be gassed. Plus we will have to win this game becuase of a close race with Arizona. This and the next game will be the must-win games.
Week 17: At Rams. I don't think we will win this. The rams will be decent next year. Maybe not playoff decent, but who was in the NFC West last year? And I don't care that the Seahawks won a playoff game, they still went 7-9. At St. Louis will be hard to win. Hell, they still may be in the hunt. It might be another 3 way showdown up until the last week to see who wins the NFC West.
So with my predictions that puts us at 9-7 and possible division champs. If we get some upsets then maybe 10 or 11 wins. Great teams are the teams who win games they are not supposed to. Hopefully that is the case with us.

Seattle L - deeper team that is more established
Cowboys L - talent and more established team wins again
@ Bengals W - bad team with no QB
@ Eagles L - of course
Bucs L - they are a very good team
@ Lions L - if Stafford stays healthy they are a wild card contender, excellent defense
Browns W - 3rd win of the season after time to re-gather things
@ Redskins W - Washington is not very good
Giants L - this one could be an upset as NY has some question marks but for now L
@ Ravens L - lead in will be fun to watch but the game will not be
Rams L - hate to say it but the St Louis defense will be very good
@Cardinals W - Kolb was not worth what AZ paid
Steelers L - bruising loss
@ Seahawks W - Harbaugh's work is paying off and we get an upset win
@ Rams L - a disappointing loss to end the season but the Rams are for real as NFC West champs.
5-11, possible upsets at NYG and against Lions could make it a 7 win season but still far too soon to tell. The team will play much better football but this is a very tough schedule.

Honestly...if Alex can do 20+ TDs with less than 15 INTs...I'll be happy.

Quick start, then a slump and then on to a good finish for 8-8.
But it will be a great year because:
Singletary is not the coach.
The team will know the offense going into next season and it will become more sophisticated then. This year is WCO 101. It will get better later.
It will be clear what upgrades are needed, the talent of players not obscured by the fog of Singletary.
The QB situation will be settled. I know, I know...
Singletary fumbling with his Headphone to Nowhere was darkly funny, as were his other antics, but good coaching is more fun to watch in the long run.
So, a quick and better than expected start, then a slump in the middle of the season and then a strong finish to finish about 50-50, one game either way. It in its own way will be the most satisfying season in a long time and will set the tone for the future.
The only thing that can stop this is for some York or another to step in to be relevant.
