When has Alex won anything?
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Alex Smith lose out on two QB competitions???
Please name the qbs he lost the competition to instead of being replaced when injured. I don't consider Sing's going with Troy after Alex was hurt as losing competition...I think Sing honestly believed that Troy was the hot hand and as soon as it was proven that wasn't the case Alex was back in.
Alex did lose it afterwards to Troy for one game..and got it back. I think he might have lost it to Rattay his rookie year, but I'm not sure.
Tim Rattay, JT'Osullivan, Shaun Hill.
Smith still ended up leading the team in passing in each case except O'Sullivan because he was hurt (he also didn't lead the team the year before - injured and Dilfer lead the team) and didn't play at all... I honestly don't remember how that competition went down, was Smith ever healthy for it?
The sad truth is whether he lost the job or not either A. He got it back or B. The other guy eventually lost it too. with the exception of the afforementioned injuries.
That's because no real competition was ever brought in and when another QB started to look better than Alex, he was traded away...
Tim Rattay was traded in the middle of the season (after performing better than Alex).
Shaun Hill was traded to avoid competition (Didn't he have a better season than Alex).
Others Alex has had to compete with... Dilfer, Weinkey, Dorsey, Pickett, Davis, O'Sullivan,
...
