He was just being political in response to directly being asked a question about McNabb. Davis has liked essentially every QB he's played with.

It amazes me howuch loyalty the guy has earned by proving nothing! Sure a few good games but the guy will take no one to the superbowl we cant argue that! So as a franchise whose primary goal is to win a championship we must move on once we establish that a certian indvidual will never take us there! No way alex ever gets on a championship team umless hes a backup! That being said we gotta recruit more talent at the qb spot.

One decent game don't mean he can play.

Smith looked pretty good in the game against the Saints, albeit in a losing one.

It reminds me all the talks before the season about Singletary being able to turn anyone into great player!

I wouldn't mind Mcnabb in a Niner's uniform for a couple of years until the rookie we draft this year is ready to start.
McNabb looked like being on the declining side of his career. Coupled that with his penchant for being injured almost every season, people have to be leery, especially when there was a draft pick involved. Last year the Eagles wanted a 1st then settled for a 2nd. Now it was clear the Redskins were the foolish team.

Dave Razzano was on Chronicle live last night and Lowell Cohn asked him right now who's the better QB Alex Smith or McNabb ??
Razzano said that Alex is not even in the same league as McNabb, he said Alex is a perennial back up in the league and should not be starting.
I agree

1 TD and 2 INT's (inside the Saints 30 yard line) is pretty good? Alex made SOME plays in that game but let's not get carried away here people.
Mcnabb had an off year as a lot of QB's do. Washington brought in like 5 different RB's to start the season and ended up with NONE OF THEM by the end of season except Torrain and in any offense, the run game is very important. I've never been a fan of Mcnabb because I thought he has been "non-clutch" his entire career and was benefited in playing in Andy Reid's system who also had Detmer look good at times, Feeley look good at times, and now Michael Vick, the NFL MVP (should be) playing the best ball EVER but to say "no thanks" to Mcnabb just because Alex had a better year this year is dumb.
I would give Mcnabb a shot with our talent and playing in our division. They had an uphill climb from the jump in the NFC East and Mcnabb has actually beat GOOD teams so I would take Mcnabb anyday of the week over Alex but I think it would be a toss up between him and Orton. I'm not quite sold on Kolb because he had it made in Philly (Jackson, Maclin, Mccoy and one of the best 3rd down receivers Avant) and still didn't impress me so I'd have to pass on Kolb.
Also, whoever Harbaugh chooses, I will support because I think we will get even more talent over the offseason and with the NFC Wests "best team" winning that 1st playoff game, they will now have to pick even later in the draft so they better hope for some FA aquisitions or I see them as a 8 maybe 9 win team at the most so AS USUAL, the division will be there for the taking.

But we already know that. He isn't a long term solution. Vick has said that McNabb was the main guy who taught him how to really be a qb. By actually studying film, and learning how to better read defenses. I think he would be a great mentor to a young qb while still putting up decent numbers and leading the team to victories. Is he gonna throw some short passes in the dirt? Yes. But he's also gonna change the culture and provide leadership that this team is desperately missing. Plus he's still a decent qb. Nothing great or spectacular. Exactly what you need in a mentor/stop gap.

Hell of a point MAN! McNabb just plain sucked this year, while Alex was below average. I mean if you take a look at the BIG PICTURE, you would obviously take Alex over McNabb. Alex has so many pro bowls, and SBs/playoff appearances, he's obviously in the same category as McNabb...This is a "what have you done for me lately league", and you would be a plain idiot to not take somebody who's been below average his whole career, than to take a guy that had an off year.
lol, all trolling as side, with that kind of mindset, why don't we just go after Brett Favre, or Derek Anderson, or Kerry Collins?
Once again, you have outdone yourself with another brilliant post.

Sounds like the Alex supporters are on life support systems, trying to keep it going until they finally pull the plug. Let them rant and rave because ultimately, it's Jim Harbaughs decision whether he stays or goes.
Those that say that Alex will NOT want to come back to the 49er's are wrong, because if Harbaugh decides to keep him (god forbid), he would be foolish to decline.
Who better to teach him about being a very good QB than Jim Harbaugh.
Let's just say that the odds of Harbaugh keeping him is NOT in his favor.

As dysfunctional as the Redskins have been through the years, it's hard for any QB to have success there. UNTIL Shanahan gets everything organized, it will remain so.
Actually, I would prefer a Carson Palmer but McNabb would be OK for a couple of years while they groom a new or an upcoming QB. With the existing talent the 49er's have, they should do very well with one of these QB's.

I can't believe this has gotten so much attention to the point where the writers are producing articles on it.
It's not even a story.
