Why in the hell did we bench Troy

He was benched because no matter how delusional any of the jack-legged pundits on this site are, the reality is Alex is the better Smith. I do not like the way it was handled by the ex-coach, Troy should have started he game on the bench.

because troy sucks donkey balls, he's proven that he cant throw the ball in under 4 seconds and he is not capable of throwing a pass under 20 yards. His lone TD was pure luck... As much as you despise Alex, he did outperform troy in less than a quarter of play.
yep - alex has certainly shown a strong aptitude for carving up prevent defenses in his career...
to bad the Rams were not in the prevent defense
I believe I remember the announcers stating this, they commented on how the rams D continued to put the pressure on the QB (which is how they ultimately stopped alex) Under Spagnuolo the rams have been known to be very aggressive on D

Whoever believes the Rams were on a prevent defense just does not know football.

i think troy should have remained in the game as well. as soon as they put alex in i knew we were doomed.
now don't get me wrong alex did ok when he went in. but of course alex lost the fumble which was the stake in the heart of our final hopes in this game. alex always does that s**t. it's nothing new. alex is fantastic at losing fumbles and killing our teams every hope for success. troy also fumbled a couple times but we never lost possession of the ball. alex fumbles once game over and it's nothing new. the only satisfaction i got out of this game is that hopefully we are closer to the end of the dreadful alex smith era. alex smith has been a cancer to this team imo.
troy smith provided the only excitement for me this year as a 49er fan. I'd be happy to start the season next year with troy as the starting qb. alex needs to go. i wouldn't even want alex as a backup out of fear he'll find his way back into starting rotation if someone gets hurt next year. im also happy that the alex lovers will soon vanish from the 49er nation.

The question should be why the hell did we start Troy.

so fumbling the ball in the endzone for a safety doesn't count as a turnover???

With a game plan that had 6 runs to 2 passes to start the game did it really matter who was the QB?

I said earlier this is why Troy shouldnt start and people still insist he's better than Alex Smith.
Just my opinion, but it appears that people want to believe Troy is a better option simply because he's not Alex and we don't want to go through another year of Alex issues. Fact is neither are good starters, but Smith likely gives us the best chance today. We still need to do better than either Smith, though, and I think that will be abundantly obvious to any of our new team management pieces.

Troy should never have started in the first place. That said, he should have been yanked much earlier in the game, like at halftime. That's when most competent HC make a QB change. But Sing will never be confused with a competent HC.

oh yeah that is true. but i actually think that was a bad snap. that was the most frustrating part of yesterday's game to me. we couldn't even properly snap the ball in the first quarter which killed 2 of our drives in the first.
the starting center that got hurt made a terrible snap on our first drive that we are lucky troy was able to scoop up and prevent the turnover. then the backup center comes in and from what i can see he snapped the ball way too hard when troy was in the endzone. i mean he's like 1 foot from the target of his snap and he rocketed back the snap to troy.
if alex had received those 2 bad snaps they would have turned into two lost fumbles that went back for six. troy saved those plays from being worse imo. alex just panicks under any stress and has a knack for giving up possesion of the ball.

cuz singletary's a moron. Not saying Troy was doing great, but he did nothing on the previous drive to warrant the benching. I honestly believe Singletary's brain is mush after playing all those years. some, most, of the decisions he makes make absolutely no sense. Adios amigo.

Ok I have to stop you here. I was on the fence all week about who should start. Hindsight being 20/20, of course Alex should of started. But Troy got the nod and he just holds on to the ball way too long. That first fumble on the 1st drive was very much so a horrible snap by Baas. That snap in the endzone, Troy just took his eyes off the ball too soon. He is a QB that has received PLENTY of snaps in shotgun throughout his college career and short pro career. That was on him. He just didn't look it all the way in which is an honest mistake.
With that said, Troy should have been benched right after he threw that INT coming out at half. The conversation at halftime should of been this simple... "we are up by two and we are getting the ball. You have not played that good so far in this game so show me you deserve to be out there and take us down the field for some points". That should have been it. Nothing more to say. Put the pressure on your starting QB's shoulders and tell him to make some plays or else. Well, he didn't make a play. In fact, we not only turned it over on a horrible pass, but we also gave them GREAT field position like they were having most of the game. THAT is when Troy should have been benched.
To wait all the way until the 4th QTR with 9 minutes left and down by 1 score was just stupid and pointless. Now enter Alex who started on fire (still think we should of went for it on 4th and 4 instead of kicking the FG with Alex throwing the ball the way he was) only to have the ball knocked from his hands (after a double clutch so please don't say he had no time) and the Rams recovered. Story of our season, story of Alex's career and quite frankly, as mad as I was because our playoff hopes were gone, I am happy to know that Singletary was fired and that starts the end of this horrible ERA of Smith/Nolan/Singletary. Will the next ERA be any better? who knows but one thing is for certain, it can't get much worse than what we have seen
