We fell when we decided to give up on everything that made us successful. It sounds very generic but its true.

What smells like s**t?

The next ten years of this f**king franchise
I am surprised no one has mentioned OL by now. So much of a QB's performance is tied to his OL's ability to give him time.

This line was supposed to be fixed five years ago. The fact that Baas, Synder and Rachel (all 2nd and 3rd draft choices) failed to play well by their second year is a huge failure. It was the right thing to do to finally address the OL in the first round this year, but once again, it seems strange that the team thought it could put these two guys in and have them perform at a high level right away.

How much damage did Davis cause this year alone in terms of penalties, sacks, interceptions, separated shoulders, fumbles and stymied drives? A team dedicated to winning the division simply doesn't send a rookie out to play that critical position and expect to do well.

I do not understand Sing. He won't play Mays or Bowman or K. Williams because of lack of experience, yet he will play A. Davis. We simply should have signed a FA right tackle this year. He didn't have to be great, just competant. Same goes for Rachel.

In summary: OL is this team's biggest fail.
Could we have been 8-8 or 9-7 w/ Heitmann
OWNERSHIP. Not Nolan, not Alex, not Sing. OWNERSHIP SUCKS

You have a good point about Sing not playing Mays/Bowman, etc., while sticking with Davis at RT. However, the larger point is, we did address the OL with those two 1st rounders as well as bring in a new OL coach, so it's not like that has gone ignored.

And as frustrating as it sounds, Davis is VERY young and probably shouldn't have been handed the starting RT job so quickly/easily. He wasn't ready and it's proven costly.

That said, other teams have poor line play (sacks given up, limited rush yards, etc.) and they've managed to find ways to win games or at the very least, be very productive QBs - Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, Philip Rivers all come to mind, and they're all in the top 6 in terms of being sacked and none are in the top 14 in terms of team rushing yards.

As a team, the Bears are the worst overall in terms of giving up sacks, and they're even a slightly worse rushing team than us. In terms of defense, they're better....but not by much (they give up 311 yards per game, we give up 331, only 20 yards difference).

Yet their QB manages to overcome all of this, and finds ways to win games and put up more than respectable numbers compared to Alex.

Point being, to be a REAL NFL QB, you have to find ways to overcome obstacles (some of your own, and some of your teams). He either hasn't found a way to do this on a consistent enough basis, or he's simply incapable. Either one isn't acceptable.

When dumb and dumber took over.

Wow. They are just plain ugly.

First of all, Cutler has Martz as his OC. That is good in one regard, but it also produces higher sack totals. His system seems to combine high octane passing with an occasional sack mixed in.

Second, sacks only partly reveal an OL's performance. You can have a good OL but if the QB holds the ball too long, he will get sacked. Conversely, there are good QBs who have below-average OLs, but they get rid of the ball quickly or have good pocket presence and can avoid the rush. Hence, not high sack totals.

I actually think Alex is pretty good avoiding sacks most of the time. But the pressure causes hurried passes, checkdowns, and passes out of bounds - all things Alex's critics condemn him for.

That might be true, but hiring someone like Bill Walsh is 99% luck.

Walsh is the one who built this team, he found the coaches and players. In fact, Walsh probably has the most impressive coaching tree in all of sports.

You could be willing to spend infinity google dollars on something, but that does not guarantee success.

What would you do if you were the owner? "Find" the next Bill Walsh? How would you go about doing that? Everything is so formulaic these days, and that type of brilliance is rare.

Would you praise the Saints ownership? They brought in Mike Ditka thinking the same thing we were thinking. Not coincidentally, he was a carbon copy of Mike Singletary.

How about the Patriots? Their current owner isn't the one who hired Bill Parcels. Parcels is the one who took that team out of the cellar and all the way to the Super Bowl. Carrol inherited a good team and kept them a pretty good playoff team. Then comes Bill Belichick, who was such a "genius", he drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round.
Then only due to an injury to starter Drew Bledsoe, Brady saw the field, and the rest is history.
The Patriots current owner (Robert Kraft) isn't the one who brought that team out of the cellar. It was a mix of Parcels, and incredible luck (Brady in the sixth round).

I guess an owner can build stadiums. But its not like we're in the middle of Texas, where there are vast expanses of cheap, flat land. We're in the middle of some of the most expensive land in the world, with hills, mountains, and water all around.

So what is an owner supposed to do?

I think it's pretty obvious by now that Singletary is a numb-skull. But who else is out there? Harbaugh? We could try him, if we can get him. But whether or not he works out is simply a function of 99% luck.

am I the only one that sees the resemblance between Mr. York and they guy from the Hannibal movie?

You can just see the affection in her eyes as Denise lovingly gazes at John. Isn't it touching? And to think that passion conceived Jed.
