Leadership is what Willis did, calling out Alex Smith to speak. Leadership is not saying something after someone else (the leader) has designated you to speak.

how do you know that it isn't a game ritual for Willis to lead the post game "huddle??" The answer is we don't.

so you just come on late at night and thread hop all over alex's nuts? gargle some more mayonnaise would ya? jesus. I sincerely hope you take your 9000 posts to whatever team he goes to next.

U mad, bro?

just been reading his ignorance all night long, sorta made me snap a bit. Probably a sign I should get off of the WZ until after Thursday when we play a real game again.

ignorance? Please don't hate because I speak the truth.

you come up with (what you think to be) witty retorts to anyone who speaks out against the terrible play of alex smith man...

all you've done all night is combat the stats...

i've got 6 years on you bro.... 6 years, that your boy... sucks a big fat weiner.

you're just doing the this-n-that crap you always do, day in and day out on here, and it's irritating.

We get it, you have manlove for AS.... that doesn't make him a good qb. seriously

witty retorts? Sorry all I have been saying is that Alex is showing improvement under MJ as the OC. Once again, don't hate because I speak the truth. The problem is you're a lame Smith hater who can't stand to see the fact that Alex isn't as bad as you want him to be. You can't stand the fact that his game is improving with better play calling and an improving OLine. But yea you're right you have 6 years on me Oh and by the way Alex isn't my boy. I just support the players on the team that give us the best chance to win. If you don't like it STFU and deal with it.

WTF? Have you been reading the board lately? If you have you'd know that one of the biggest gripes with Alex from some posters is he has no "swagger," or "swag." I was commenting on show stupid I think that whole idea is.

Subtle racist undertones? You need to kick back.

I am a Smith hater. I also chew on my words if i'm wrong, which I will in that respect when the day comes, but the seahawks victory wasn't all Alex and I don't give him more credit than he deserves after one victory over an awful team. I certainly don't give him credit for being a locker room leader. You can say "6 years on me all you want, but that is... what you call... the truth. He's had various good receivers, linemen and coaches over the years he's been with the 49ers and hasn't been consistantly productive his entire career. This week will be no different. Do me a favor. I'll make a thread kissing your ass should he win against the chargers. I'll come out and admit that I was a big nitwit if he can put up the kind of numbers against SD that he did. Should he flop, which he will, and show that he hasn't "improved" as much as you claim he is... then I'll wait for my ass to get kissed in a thread as well. I know it wont happen because pride cometh before the fall.

He hasn't gotten any better, he beat a bad team who gave him 5 turnovers. It's not f**king rocket science to see that he's still just as bad as he's always been.

Did I ever call Alex a lockerroom leader????? Last time I checked I didn't. Also Alex didn't win the Seattle game, the TEAM DID!!! Players don't win games, teams do. You win as a team and you lose as a team. Every player has a role in either the loss or the win. You're assumptions are hilarious. I guess you haven't really been reading my posts as you say you have. I am one of the first people on here to admit when I am wrong and to point out Alex Smith's flaws. Also you might want to check the post someone put up that showed how the elite QB's in the league played against this #1 ranked pass defense. I'm not expecting Alex Smith to go out in SD and play lights out. I'm hoping he plays a mistake free game and gives us a chance to win. Alex Smith isn't a great QB. He is a serviceable QB on our roster that happens to give us the best chance to win games. That is about it. But hey nice reading your ASSumptions. Please keep them coming they really are entertaining to read. I love getting a laugh out of peoples ignorance.

I honestly think 75% of what has happened with Alex is in his head. When he doesn't think and just chucks it like the last game he plays well. When he second guesses himself he gets the hesitation and late and inaccurate throws. If you could fix his head I think Alex could be decent. I don't know about great. But I think more of it is in his head than most people realize.

It's an interesting situation...Alex w/the 49ers. This is going to sound dumb but maybe some of you will find it interesting...but basically I know some mutual friends of Alex through his ex gf (I really hate saying things like this) Heather (the chick from AZ State...brunette) and they all say he's an outgoing guy who makes a lot of wise cracks. It's just interesting to hear that then hear about how "shy" he is. I think he's just stymied in SF. It's like being in a job where your first boss (in his case..Nolan) just tears your confidence down and it fundamentally changes who you are at work...and by the time you find your self or your confidence...people don't care and you're still unsure.

That said...a change of scenery is the BEST remedy for something like that. I'm sure plenty of you have been in jobs you hated then switched to something similar but in a different environment and boom...you do extremely well.

Anyway...that's my lame insight.

I also think he has drawbacks. One of which has been highlighted by this thread topic. His leadership is just not that good. IMO, this is a symptom of some of his other problems at quarterback.

The point is, that video did not demonstrate Alex Smith's leadership qualities. That is all I am saying. Perhaps he does have leadership qualities, perhaps leadership does not matter; but, IMO that particular video does not demonstrate positive leadership traits in Alex Smith, although there might be other video's that do.

You can be the biggest "type A" personality in the world, and make a ton of wisecracks, yet not have a lick of leadership ability.

It was not a lame insight, it was a very good insight. But for example, Joe Montana was very shy in public in general, but around his teammates and during football games he was able to not just say the right things ("Hey, isn't that John Candy"), but he could also lift the team on his shoulders at critical moments.

The problem with leadership, is that it becomes much more difficult for people to listen to you, if you are not one of the better players on the team. If Smith can win in San Diego, and play well, he has an opportunity to grab a bigger leadership role. Players will believe in him again; but remember "consistency" has always been Alex Smith's issue.

I really hope we win in SD. If for anything...just to shut up all the stupid ass Charger fans around South Orange County.

man everyone is on edge tonight. Some of you all need to get laid. Did I ever in that post say that Alex Smith was a leader? I am simply playing devils advocate. Everyone is harping on Alex Smith for being a horrible leader because he is quiet. We are not behind the scenes, we do not know what is going on. Because he doesn't give big raw raw speeches and yell at players on the sidelines everyone assumes that he is not a leader.

I think everyone on this board, is really confused as to what to think. This is a very complicated time for the 49ers. The San Diego game on Thursday night, is probably going to resolve a lot of the confusion.
Then again, we could actually lose, and STILL make the playoffs.
