What I don't accept is if you are a relative, close friend, lover, or Alex Smith's agent trying to dig a deeper hole for franchise to climb up from - so please just go away, take Alex SMith with you and leave my beloved 49ers alone.
I've witnessed Montana and Young work their magic. I've seen a coach fired after a 12-4 season. We're the 49ers and we don't put up with this kind of s**t, especially from our QBs. There should be no patience for the Alex Smith fantasy camp, where this average dude gets a seemingly endless shot at being in way over his head as an NFL QB. WTF.
Barely played three seasons of NFL football under conditions almost no one would have succeeded under = an "endless shot" now?

If Gruden comes on board, Alex is gonna stay. Gruden gushed all over him at the draft. He was very complimentary of him on MNF against the Aints.
So this is a likely senario.

Damn y'know you're right.
Too bad Joe and Steve played behind solid Lines with solid personnel from sideline to sideline and George inherited them.
It's a damn good thing you people don't run the team otherwise we'd never get anywhere.
Newsflash, even Bill had a few less than stellar seasons. Now I'm not condemning our heroes, but gimme a break you people are so far away from reality, I bet you dropped too many 4 way WP once Mooch was fired.
The simple fact is that Joe and Steve as good as they were would be running for their lives if they lined up behind the Lines we've had on the field the last 9 years with the Receivers we've had.
I'm saying that if Alex were offered a reasonable contract and it was a one or 2 year deal, in THIS market he's worth that.
And btw, Alex IS a better QB than Rivers. I know you don't believe it and I don't give a f**k if you do. Don't bust my chops over it. Rivers will NEVER get past the Championship game and that much has been evident for a long time. He had the greatest RB since Barry Sanders the best TE, a solid Line and above Average Receivers. If you put Alex in THAT environment with Norv Turner running the Offense that Turner ran in '06?
The difference being that since Turner bolted on us, we haven't had an OC with any play calling imagination. Not even Martz. Sing fired him not because he was against Running the ball. But because he rarely had Davis catching Passes. Davis was held back to block. Martz doesn't believe in using the TE as much. You look back at Vermiel's tenure with the Rams, they USED their TEs'. Once Martz got the gig? Yeah right, what's a TE?
You have the right to your opinion regarding Alex Smith. I think you're baggin on the guy because of where he was drafted, the amount of money he's made and our crap teams. You believe blaming the QB means that it's true. You can replace this Coach and this QB but it won't lead us to the warm and fuzzies.
Sorry to break it down in simple terms but y'all are goofy.

This game is all for Singletary and his selfish self so that he can sit back and feel comfortable that the offense will be excecutednexactly like this: run, run, very safe read, punt. Then Sing is going to be nice and warm inside and give the players another false sense of hope because they kept the game close.

Good points.
The sad thing is, A.Smith is probably our best option for next year... There are no free agents, the CBA is up in the air, we won't select first overall in next draft...
We will draft a QB, but I don't want him to be killed like Smith in his first season... Just keep the rookie on the bench for a year, if he is not ready.
And, most of all, get rid of Singletery and get an offensive minded HC. Please...
P.S.
I would like to see A.Smith play with a spread offense, like in college. Can we do that in his 6th year in the NFL? It seems clear to me that he would play much better. What's more, almost all the best teams play mostly spread offenses: Indy, NE, Pit, Ravens, Packers, Saints... they all try to spread the field and use 3-4 receivers... I know that they have better QBs than us, but I think Smith would play better with that kind of offense. But wait, we had Nolan and Singletary... Better run up the middle, passing game is for little girls...

I don't believe I am but I can't argue a negative until I'm offered something that provokes thought.
I never said Rivers sucks btw. I just believe that Smith has better tools and knows the Offense better than Rivers and could have done a smashing job as the Boltz Starter had he been on their team instead of ours. We really hadn't run the Digit system much with Raye he was injured 2007 and 2008. But he knows the Offense well enough to run it in 2 minute drill and call his own plays. That speaks volumes about his ability, regardless of what his detractors think.
Oh and I'm pretty sure that Alex's Red Zone stats are slightly better than Phil's.

I wouldnt necessarily side with Alex to be the QB next year but who are the alternatives?
Should we stick with the devil we know?
Can we see any good QBs in FA that would be an upgrade from Alex?
Is the draft deep and rich in QBs?
I say if we cant find any one else we stick with the devil we know and not get one in FA we dont know about.
