Alex is probably the best quarterback on the roster---but that means nothing--he still is not a good quarterback--i'd rather start Nate Davis---there is nothing to lose.
other than the game--!!

lets be honest here. If you were a Seahawks fan and you still had playoff hopes and you just heard this news, how would you feel?
A: shaking in your boots
B:
A few Rams fans texted me to "F--- singletary" for going with Alex...They were hoping the 49ers would help them out and beat Seattle on Sunday, but they have no faith in Alex either...go figure.
Rams fans must not have seen how Troy smith lookedl ike Kyle boller for the rams last year.

Getting desperate alright. He already showed he wanted something other than AS, now all of a sudden he is OK with him.
Sing is all over the map. I like Sing and what he stands for, but he is in way over his head as a HC.
LMAO

Truth.
We'll see. If we beat Seattle, we play 4 days later to see if we can still pull this s**t out.

At this point what does any of it matter? Alex is a turnover machine and Troy had bad pocket presence and lacks accuracy.
How about we just start a QB without the last name Smith? Particularly with the last name Davis?

Yes finally Alex gets his 100th chance to try and show why we drafted him #1!! i can see it now he comes in and has his famous im back game where he actually looks decent and we win and everyone starts saying how "Hes the Man" or "is alex improving?" or the fanboys just rant him up to be the future! wow give me a break.

Singletary is Gone....Winning coach signs! ( Cowher/Gruden )

And no, I'm not an irrational Smith hater, I just don't think hes very good. When I look at a QB like Smith I don't look at who he had as a coach, his O-line, or his recievers ( even though all these things did contribute to his suckage so far in San Fran), but I look at these things:
1) Accuracy, and mainly, consistency of accuracy.
2) Pocket presence
3) Fire, leadership
4) Decision Making
5) Confidence
We all have to agree that, whether we like him or not, Smith is not very good at these things, consistently.
IMO, hes shown signs of #3 at times, and obviously has shown #1 at times too ( but then again which QB in NFL history hasn't shown accuracy from time to time?) And lastly, he is TERRIBLE at #2, and very indecisive at times.
This is why I am not a typical 'Smith hater'. I believe that he will not be a good QB wherever he goes, because of the reasons I stated above.
Anyone wanna push back on my opinion?
Wow. A good post on why you should dislike Alex Smith. I like it--there's not many of these nowadays.
I'll agree with you on 1, 3, and 5. Smith is only so-so (I believe he's throwing for what, 59.1% this year, with a career total of like 54%?) as an accurate passer, even including all those BS deflection-for-interception and drops that our WRs make. We know that he doesn't go out there and whip people's butts like Favre, Roethlisberger, or Rivers might either. It simply is not his way and I don't see a way he could change his style of leadership to be like them. Lastly, if I had both my shoulders separated, one nearly for a career ending spell, two head coaches who hated me because I was entwined in their destinies, yet I wasn't placed in a position to succeed, and no real good mentors in my career (or ringing endorsements from former coaches), I'd be pretty down in the dumps too. I'd play with a chip on my shoulder, but at the end of the day,it's not enough to overcome all this animosity.
I will say this, though: Smith's pocket presence is much, much better than previous years--he at least tries to get the ball out. What we're correlating to "poor" pocket presence is tied to his decision making: I think he's programmed to roll out to his right to try when protection breaks down and either a) get it to someone he can see downfield, b) make a run for it, or c) throw it away, avoiding a sack and loss of yards. Of course, it doesn't work all the time (Eagles game
