same reason we call a time out before halftime, only to run out the clock on the next play.
even the broadcasters were like WTF??? If your gonna let the clock run out why take the timeout in the first place. Singletarty is a class a buffoon when it comes to coaching. He might be a nice guy and a class act but when it comes to winning football games which he is paid to do he fails miserably.
What if the run would have gotten yards? A big play? It was pretty obvious what they were trying to do there, catch the D off guard thinking they were going to throw down the field being where they were on the field and how little time was left. Remember Westbrook had just gotten 11 yards on the previous carry/play. It didn't work so they didn't chance giving GB the ball back with any time on the clock. If they throw it incomplete
it would have been 3rd and long at their own thirty with THE CLOCK STOPPED, very likely that GB gets the ball back. If they were around midfield that would be a different story, but not deep in your own territory.
You can fault them for the play call on first down after the first timeout, but not for letting the clock run out when it didn't work, considering where they were and the odds that GB would get the ball back in good field position and possibly score again. NFL coaches do that before the half every Sunday.
