6 yrs to grow is not enough I guess... in addition he'll need good wr's, good OL, good RB's, good special teams, good cheerleaders, good stadium, etc, etc... and he'll be ok

Look. Let's suppose you bought a promising young racehorse for $1 million. But you put him in the hands of a crappy trainer. So the horse never did very well in the races.
Would you just pout and declare that the horse sucks and he is going to the glue factory, or would you fire the trainer and put him in the hands of a really good trainer to see whether he was worth the big investment you once made in him?
I already know what susweel, fly15 and joecool's answers are: "The horse sucks and he needs to go to the glue facotry."

I don't care about Alex Smith's talents. I think he's maxxed out--he just needs an oline that can block for him and he's a servicable QB.. it's just very sentimental to see this duo torn apart. I followed them both for the past 4 years...they came into the league at the same time..., i feel sad.

The answer is "no." Alex has had enough of this retched franchise and coaching staff. Even if the new HC gets down on his knees I don't see Smith here next year - his decision.
If the Alex haters want to see a fast forward version of how Alex was re-programmed from a creative playmaker in college to a tentative game manager, just watch what has happened to Troy since he first started against Denver up through this last game.
Mike Johnson and Mike Singletary have both been quoted on the same topic. Johnson wanted to encourage Troy's creativity with plays designed to do that. Singletary said they needed to work on Troy's "bad habits."
Sing got his way. In the last two games, Troy's passes have all been "safe" ones. No more "bad habits." Anyone that isn't seeing that is not watching.
Say HELLO to the latest "game manager." His name is Troy Smith.

Based on your theory, ALL first round draft choices are promising young talent and should become ALL PRO depending on their trainers, is that right?
Or are you just saying Alex Smith because YOU know for sure he's the real deal?
After all ... YOU KNOW TALENT WHEN YOU SEE ONE!
