Well, I am going to debate you, susweel.
For the last four years, the OC has been a serious problem. Debate that. The OL has been a serious problem ever since Alex was drafted. The receiving corps has been subpar as well. All of these problems take a toll on a QB. Alex has been coached ever since he was drafted to play cautious by defensive-minded HCs.
Let's look at this year: Under Raye, Alex's rating was 82.2 against NO, the league's 2nd best pass defense. Under Johnson, his rating was 92.8 against PHIL, the league's 14th rated pass defense. His rating was 87.4 against OAK, the league's 4th best pass defense. That is not stinking it up. In fact, it is pretty good.
For my part, I do not want Troy benched, and thank God that Alex remains on the bench, but for different reasons. I want him to be able to leave this insane asylum with still functioning shoulders. He has been loyal to this organization long enough. They never delivered on their end, either for him or for the fans.
This. No qb will ever succeed here, if things remain the same.

Yeah, and it's not just that. He's trying too hard to make something happen with his feet. I'm worried he'll do that next week and Dockett will smear him all over the turf.

Alex Smith takes less sacks and knows the whole playbook.
I'd rather not get Troy Smith killed.
Sorry that doesn't make sense to you.

Aren't you worried about Alex's health ?
Through 6 1/2 games Alex was sacked 13 times. Troy was sacked 11 times in the last two games.
Also, we've been giving up more QB hits since Troy took over. We're actually worse than Martz's Bears. We were ranked in the last two or three in the league all season... now... dead last.
Now that teams know to contain Troy, I'm far more worried about him than I am about Alex.

I've rarely seen Troy Smith get rid of the ball in a swift manner. This has probably put a lot of pressure for the o-line to block longer than they normally would. It also seems like Alex is more adept at eluding rushers than Troy. Usually one rusher can take down Troy without much of an effort. Alex can usually shake and bake his way away from one, but not two rushers.

I give Alex credit for being smart and reasonably experienced, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt that it was because he couldn't find open receivers downfield. Occassionally, the TV camara would look downfield and you could see that the receivers were covered and were not breaking open.
Alex did what any competent QB would do, and he went elsewhere with the ball. Often, we would see Vernon go downfield and he would not turn around when the QB desparately wanted to throw to him. This happened again near the end of yesterday's game, only this time Troy was the victim.
Bottom line: our receivers often let our QBs down. If its Alex, it's Alex's fault. If it's Troy, it's on the receivers.
Give it up already.....................
Alex is done
Agreed.... why do people still hang on to A. Smith??? I don't understand.. Even if T. smith is not the answer, I sure the hel/ don't ever want to see A. Smith taking a snap.... Ever, in a niners uniform.

All the coaches need to go. This team has taken a huge step backward. This is beyond pathetic. Don't they prepare all week for their opponent? It doesn't seem like it.

I didn't know constantly rolling out to the right and throwing it away was classified as 'shaking and baking' or eluding rushers.....
Theres so many times when Alex rolls out to the right, when all he has to do is sidestep a rusher. This, IMO is one of the reasons he is not a good QB and never will be. He doesn't have a feel for the pocket, like a Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady etc. You can't coach that. Pressure is gonna be there, no matter who you play for, and IMO, Smith can't handle it WHILE making a play...consistently.

How did this get hijacked into yet another Troy vs Alex debate? We're talking receivers girlies. We need a game breaker who can also catch. Ginn is fast but rarely gets up to top speed, can't catch and is more concerned with self-preservation tahn making a great play. Crabtree doesn't always run the most precise routes and sometimes looks lazy out there. And let's face it, he's not very fast either. Morgan is merely adequate. williams is a mystery as a receiver and may turn out to be a find. Our tight ends are good. Ziggy needs to get more passes his way, cause he's generally acknowledged as the best route runner and probably the best hands in the receiver corps. Too bad Hill is gone. Could even use Brandon Lloyd at this point.

I truly dont understand why every receiver is covered when they do catch the ball. With all the speed we have and none of them get open. I saw too many time when you can see Troy wanting to throw but the rec is not Showing open yet. Thus him holding to the ball. Maybe im tripping but since i dont get a great view of this im concerned.
Now something else im noting is the actual plays all go deep. not actually attacking each zone. Dont understand Why but i do know that change will come. Hopefully it is a coach that actually understands this and not one that just has a name. the Bucs coach is the same age as Ronde. Hell he's my age. But he is doing a good job of putting the players in the right place. They are one of the youngest teams in the league. So the Alexcuse of age no longer works. BTW so is New England.

I sense sarcasm.
Hey, you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't like the trend I've seen in the last two games. Troy is taking a lot of sacks. I'm worried he'll have a serious career altering injury. I would like to keep the kid around and see if we can develop him. Just my opinion, WestCoast.
I'm sorry for acting like a jerk. Forgive me?
