OAK - still a W
CAR - still a L
So 4-5.
Which one bad mistake are you referring to in this game? The fumble returned for a TD or one of his two ints?

That's very possible. LOL. The tough away games and tougher teams would have still been mostly losses if not all.
Even the Panthers? Cmon now!
We might have won that if Alex didn't get injured.
You really think we beat the Chiefs at Chiefs with Troy Smith? The Saints game?
The Chiefs, no. We got blown out period. The Saints game I honestly believe we would have won with Troy. The guy is efficient, takes care of the ball and makes big plays when we need them. Alex Smith throws interceptions more than he throws touchdowns and can't seem to win many games.
Sssshhhh don't say that too loud in Niner talk. Oh wait here they come

I honestly believe we beat NO, ATL and CAR with Troy behind center. We lost each of those games by 3 or less, and with Troy's quick-strike ability (in comparison to Alex and Carr), we find a way to eliminate the costly turnovers and make enough big plays to pull away in the 4th quarter. More so ATL and CAR, but NO wasn't on their game that night and very beatable, if not for turnovers.
Not sure about the Philly game, given how many weapons they have...but Alex's turnovers (again) were definitely costly. This one is a toss-up for me, but lean towards a loss either way.
So I say, 6-3 (Seattle, KC and Philly being the losses either way).

The harder part of the schedule was the beginning of the year. We would have still lost lots of those. Now all the softballs are lined up. We are getting somewhat of a false impression and false hope. But he does some things well. And I like what I see in some ways. But I wouldn't get carried away and think he's leading us to a Super Bowl.
Please. We almost won 4 more games under Alex Smith. Anyone who doesn't see Troy Smith is far superior to Alex is blind. Troy doesn't make the mistakes Alex does, and without those mistakes, we win at least 3 out of those 4 that we ALMOST won.
6-3.
A.Smith lead the league in INT with 9 at the beginning of the year. Take out the turnovers and all the missed deep balls to VD,Ginn and Morgan and I think our record is 7-2, but defintely at least 6-3.

I don't think it'd be that much better...maybe 4-5. Have to remember, he knew a lot less of the offense earlier, so most likely would've struggled. I like what he's doing, but he's won against two bad road teams. The real test is still coming...Bucs and Seattle at home, Green Bay, San Diego and St. Louis on the road. I can easily see them finishing 6-10...

6-3 straight up. With Troy we would have definitely beat the Saints, Falcons, and Panthers.
Although, you would also have to put (into account) the argument of Jimmy Raye opening the offense up/planning around Troy's strengths the way Johnson has the past 2 games. I would definitely assume 'otherwise'. (Raye was as stoic as Sing in this department.)
Everything that has happened thus far has happened for a reason, it's all fate/destiny from this point forward. So realistically, if Sing had pulled the trigger on Troy instead of Carr in that Panthers game (although I think Troy was inactive), we'd definitely be 4-5 right now. -That's what hurts the most.

I think this thread is working off the premise of "what if" he would've been the starting QB in training camp, pre-season and opening day.

Bottom line is its finally been proven that the biggest weakness on the 49ers was the QB position.
Not only would we be in first place with Troy in there, we would have won the division the last two seasons also.
We've finally got rid of Alex "the bust" Smith once and for all and all true Niner fans are rejoicing!!!
Not only would we have lost to the Rams last Sunday, but my money says we would have heard all the Smith supporters whine about how the O-line didn't protect him....bunch of bs.
Troy Smith was harrassed pretty good by St. Louis and OVERCAME LIKE ALL GOOD QB'S DO!!!
Bye bye Alex!!!!!!

But that assumes perfect play from the QB. That is not realistic.
Reality would be 3 or 4 picks, and given how the defense played in that time frame, I don't think that would change more than one game.
The defense wasn't getting any takeaways during that time. It is hard to see more than one more win. 4-5 is the best I can realistically see.

3-6 because we would still have Jimmy Raye. Alex helped throw him under the bus, thats why he's gone.
Also, there would be more film on Troy by now, and defenses would have a better gameplan to stop him.
Resign ALex please.

6-3 All day shoulda beat saints shoulda beat eagles shouda beat panthers and shoulda beat the Falcons too. Troy Smith has more Balls on taking chances than Alex did and doesnt make stupid mistakes up to now.

I'm convinced in the next 2 games, troys throw it up and pray style.. will result in 2 ints.
And if we can go back and say "if troy smith was starting" then what if "mike vick was starting" we woulda got stomped by the eagles, so this whole what if thing is flawed.
