why the hell did we get rid of everest. There is a point in time where you have to look at the players who were returning the kicks rather than the coach. He had no talent to work with.

Ok, the players aren't paying attn, or the ST coach isn't following up on orders given, or the HC isn't following the game closely enough to be sure we have 11 men on the field...not 9, not 12. Sure the knuckleheads weren't out there, but it still is in the lap of the HC, bigmike(BM)...ultimately, finally, and totally. There's a F/U out there, HC is responsible, not asst coaches, not players. If a guy can't remember when to be out there on a FG or a PR, then what kind of coach is our supposed HC? Crappy, pure and simple. Sure some idiots screwed up, but it is the HC's job to know about everything that is going on out there, from missed OL blocks to missed tackles, to not knowing when to be on the field. BM gets the red card on this one. If he plays guys who aren't paying attn as to when to be on field, then he is playing the wrong guys. When i played hs football, if i got a chance to play, i didn't forget about it. Man, that might be my only chance to get in all nite, maybe all season. And these yokels? Tag every player responsible with a $10K fine, and watch their concentration increase.
Still and all, it is the HC, BM's bm.

Our special teams are overrated. Our return guys can't even catch the ball. That's bad. But the Chargers special teams are even worse. I can tell you that...

I think we have some good return specialists now
but the blocking isnt as good
and on coverage units, tackling hasnt been good
the missing M's may be one of the reasons, M'Rob, McKillop and Miller
Roman was a pretty good special teamer too

Our net (yds) are easily in the top 3rd in the league.
Yeah, we haven't sprung a td & we haven't forced a fumble - yet. But, haven't we had a lot of turnover on st's due to injury and wanting to incorporate younger/fresher legs?
Go back to your Alex bashing. No big story here.
Honestly...where did you get that from? no, seriously. lol....

tondiman,
For the 2nd time, you're simply "spraying" vs. using facts to make your point. Must be election season? Did you not see Ginn's #2 nice returns against Oakland? Ginn is currently #7 in the league in KOR yds/avg. #15 in PR yds/avg. AMONG 32 TEAMS. And how long has he been "that guy" for us? 3 weeks? And by adding more youth to our ST's we'll see more energy & enthusiasm for ST's and we'll break some big returns.
Care to argue with the NFL statisticians? Go back to bashing Alex, or Sing or Obama, Pelosi & Reid, I don't care. But, if you want to take cheap shots at one of the areas of the team that is getting better before our eyes (excluding having too many/too few on the field), you better tighten your chin strap & secure your mouth piece. We'll hit you back! lol

you have to defend a kickoff better than that.
40 points or not.

no TD = not a big play.
a 40, 50, 60, 70+ yard, non TD returns, to set up great field position are not important and is useless.

backontop,
dude, your're calling me out a month and half after my orig post because the Sea Chickens took one to the house????? lol. Sometimes guys make mistakes. Thankfully, they have been rare since my OCT post. Our ST's are contributing. Our cover is improving, we're finding seams and creases in our returns, and fingers x'd, we're getting all 11 on the field at one time.
Youthful, aggressive, playing with confidence and a sense of purpose. Getting better at both coverage teams, not turning the ball over on returns, and getting great play from Lee, Nedney and now Reed. As an example, while we have punted a lot more than most teams, we're giving up less than 8yds/PR on 43 returns, and no TD's. That's top 5 in league (net/net/avg).

Ted Ginn has like 2 weeks of good returns and hasn't contributed anything offensively. Leon Washington would have been teh better pick up. hopefully ginn will break one.
As far as coverage teams they just seem a bit slow at times. they are missing a lot of key guys form last year. I wish they had a kicker that could get more touch backs
