The line is a disaster. And here is why you're wrong. Say these words with me, "Seattle Seahawks!" They have one returning player from last year on their O-line, yet they look ten times better than us in pass protection. On top of that, their OL coach quit the team 12 days before the season began...

2nd Quarter
2nd and 7 at OAK 45 L.Murphy right end pushed ob at SF 12 for 43 yards (T.Mays). L.Murphy on end around for 43 yards
all 3 DL get good push up front (RayMac at LE), and Manny flew into the backfield... all of these things were counter-productive to the reverse. lots of green in front, as it sucked in our whole LB + DB crew. great TE block on Mays down the field
1st and 10 at SF 12 M.Bush up the middle to SF 7 for 5 yards (D.Goldson).
Franklin gets walled off from rush lane by OC and RG ... LG and LT blow up Justin to clear the lane... TE comes across to block well on Haralson... Willis, Goldson, and Haralson clean up
2nd and 5 at SF 7 M.Bush up the middle to SF 6 for 1 yard (T.Spikes).
RayMac at LE penetrated inside of TE and TKO was there to help out. These two really make this run stuff happen
3rd and 4 at SF 6 (Shotgun) M.Bush up the middle to SF 6 for no gain (J.Smith; D.Evans).
Justin gets inside of the LT as the key run stuffer here... Goldson and RayMac help clean up
4th and 4 at SF 6 S.Janikowski 24 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-J.Condo, Holder-S.Lechler. 6 0
-----
1st and 10 at SF 20 (Shotgun) A.Smith sacked at SF 18 for -2 yards (M.Shaughnessy).
Staley gives up too much ground and is inches from being shoved into QB... Smith tries to run from Staley's pressure, but the RDE disengages and drags him down. Everyone else up front did fine. *By the way, the RE beating Staley here was rookie Matt Shaughnessy
2nd and 12 at SF 18 A.Smith pass short right to J.Morgan pushed ob at SF 27 for 9 yards (T.Branch). Caught at SF 21.
good job from all OL... pretty quick throw on 4 man rush... AD and Rachal showing violence
3rd and 3 at SF 27 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short middle to M.Crabtree.
free rush instantly gets in QB's face from right side... Not sure why AD would block in and let a clear rusher go free... Rachal did enough on the DL that AD went to help on... quick pass hits Crabtree in both hands (at helmet level) and Crabs tips it up incomplete. Those so often get INT'd... Alex clearly unhappy with that poor focus from Crabs
4th and 3 at SF 27 A.Lee punts 39 yards to OAK 34, Center-B.Jennings, out of bounds.
-----
1st and 10 at OAK 34 J.Campbell pass deep middle intended for Z.Miller INTERCEPTED by M.Lawson at SF 43. M.Lawson to SF 43 for no gain (Z.Miller).
Raiders have extra OL in... Franklin blocked well by RG and RT... Sopoaga kept at bay by extra OL and RB... Haralson pushed wide of QB by LT, and Justin doubled by OC + LG despite good efforts... Manny flying in front of TE and makes spectacular INT... decent coverage from Mays behind TE, but TE would probably have caught it, he has a step or two
-----
1st and 10 at SF 43 F.Gore left tackle to SF 44 for 1 yard (T.Scott; R.McClain).
No push from left side and pathetic Norris block = Gore stuffed
* defensive encroachment from hard-count
2nd and 4 at SF 49 A.Smith pass incomplete short left to V.Davis.
all did a good job on misdirection roll-out... just a bad throw from QB... too cluttered with defenders... should have gone ahead and thrown it to... gulp... Norris underneath, lol
3rd and 4 at SF 49 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to V.Davis to OAK 39 for 12 yards (C.Johnson; M.Mitchell). Caught at OAK 44
All OL did okay for this one.... Staley deliberately gives up too much space in his pass pro set-up.... all OL were gradually losing battle, but did enough... VD looked like the best read
1st and 10 at OAK 39 A.Smith pass incomplete short right to V.Davis.
crazy-sick pressure on free rush... boot-leg backfire here... had to throw it away, no choice. Not liking the body language of any offensive player
2nd and 10 at OAK 39 F.Gore left tackle to OAK 34 for 5 yards (M.Huff).
nice vision and good lead block Norris... Staley couldn't maintain his block, but Iupati pulled and helped open the hole.
3rd and 5 at OAK 34 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete deep right to J.Morgan [T.Kelly].
good overall blocking... Rachal would have given up a sack if the ball had not come out as soon as it did, (as it was, Rachal's man smacked Alex hard after the throw) but adequate time was given. Morgan looked lost and lazy on the route... Alex gestures angrily to him... really pissed off at Morgan. Alex goes over to him right away on sideline, gesturing and explaining something to Morgan.
Timeout #1 by SF at 08:37.
4th and 5 at OAK 34 A.Lee punts 34 yards to OAK 0, Center-B.Jennings. N.Miller, Touchback.
-----
1st and 10 at OAK 20 M.Bush left tackle to OAK 21 for 1 yard (A.Franklin).
really good job from Sopo, Franklin, and Evans to anchor up front and slide to the run... Haralson fights off a pull-blocking OL to get to the RB also
2nd and 9 at OAK 21 J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to L.Murphy (D.Evans). D.Evans bats ball down at line
Sopo, Evans and Franklin scrapping hard to get a couple yards push forward... Haralson applying pressure with an arm-over move on LT... Evans smartly gets a hand up and bats ball
* Maybe we need to look into this extra OL tactic that New Orleans + Oakland uses?
3rd and 9 at OAK 21 (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete short right to J.Ford.
super-quick pass to WR here... Brooks was coming around edge, swatted at it... just a bad pass
4th and 9 at OAK 21 S.Lechler punts 42 yards to SF 37, Center-J.Condo, out of bounds.
-----
1st and 10 at SF 37 A.Smith pass incomplete short right to J.Morgan [R.Seymour].
At first, pretty good pass pro from all, including VD... a DT did stunt late and ended up smacking QB... would have been nice for someone rightside to have picked him up... that stunting DT really affected this one
2nd and 10 at SF 37 (Shotgun) F.Gore right guard to SF 38 for 1 yard (M.Mitchell; T.Scott).
Rachal does well enough on the block... AD's man squirmed his way through as Gore came toward him... Baas was successful enough in 2nd level LB block.. Staley pulls, but couldn't get enough of the DB, who was initially at the LOS... Staley shows displeasure
3rd and 9 at SF 38 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short left to M.Crabtree (N.Asomugha).
the protection held up... just a bad decision from Alex here, throwing into double coverage
4th and 9 at SF 38 A.Lee punts 54 yards to OAK 8, Center-B.Jennings. N.Miller to OAK 17 for 9 yards (T.Brown).
-----
* RJF makes 1st appearance today at NT
1st and 10 at OAK 17 J.Campbell scrambles right end pushed ob at OAK 18 for 1 yard (A.Brooks).
good pressures from RayMac up the middle and LaBoy beating LT around the edge. QB sees LaBoy and has too much speed to run away. RJF shows instant awareness and great pursuit of QB to sideline
2nd and 9 at OAK 18 M.Bush left guard to OAK 20 for 2 yards (R.Jean Francois; P.Willis).
sweet explosion into backfield by RayMac.... excellent job RJF to anchor and fight his way to the run lane... Justin anchored well, and Willis fought off an OL blocker to get in there
3rd and 7 at OAK 20 (Shotgun) J.Campbell pass incomplete deep right to J.Higgins. Ball caught out of bounds
Justin and RayMac stunt and get a few yards progress to QB... LaBoy (3 point stance) came screaming over LT's outside shoulder, but QB stepped up just in time... just an inaccurate pass
4th and 7 at OAK 20 S.Lechler punts 60 yards to SF 20, Center-J.Condo. T.Ginn pushed ob at SF 31 for 11 yards (T.Scott).
-----
1st and 10 at SF 31 F.Gore right end to SF 34 for 3 yards (M.Shaughnessy).
All blocking was decent, but the RE blazed across to tackle Gore from the back... crazy-impressive speed from Shaughnessy... not Staley's fault, he was asked to go straight into 2nd level for blocks
2nd and 7 at SF 34 F.Gore left end to SF 38 for 4 yards (T.Scott).
good block from VD on RE... Staley pulls and clears out his man... excellent multi-task blocks from Byham... good job from Norris to lead block a DB... Iupati did his job on RDT... AD couldn't get 2nd level fast enough, but few could...
3rd and 3 at SF 38 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short left to F.Gore (R.Seymour).
Iupati gets beaten too quickly by Seymour at RDT around his outside shoulder.... no chance for QB... Alex yells F U... presumably at the chorus of Boos
4th and 3 at SF 38 A.Lee punts 55 yards to OAK 7, Center-B.Jennings, downed by SF-K.Kristick.
-----
1st and 10 at OAK 7 M.Bush left end to OAK 8 for 1 yard (T.Spikes).
Sopo and Franklin anchor well vs their man... Justin penetrates inside, misses RB, but gets back to him thanks to... LaBoy stands up TE and plugs the hole as TKO also comes in to make tackle
2nd and 9 at OAK 8 M.Reece up the middle to OAK 10 for 2 yards (J.Smith).
Sopo and Franklin again anchor strong, and Justin slips in quickly to shut down RB... SF is easily winning the battle of the trenches... for once.
Timeout #2 by SF at 02:37.
3rd and 7 at OAK 10 (Shotgun) M.Bush up the middle to OAK 15 for 5 yards (T.Spikes; P.Willis).
a run lane opens between RayMac and Justin, but Willis and TKO close it quickly
Timeout #3 by SF at 02:31.
4th and 2 at OAK 15 S.Lechler punts 60 yards to SF 25, Center-J.Condo. T.Ginn to SF 40 for 15 yards (J.Condo). PENALTY on SF-A.Dixon, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SF 26. T.Ginn credited with 1-yard punt return.
-----
1st and 10 at SF 16 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to J.Morgan to SF 21 for 5 yards (T.Branch).
Close call for Staley, but he and Iupati did a good job of containing the stunting RDT and RE... the others blocked well, and Morgan made a nice adjustment to catch a ball thrown a bit behind him.
2nd and 5 at SF 21 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short left to B.Westbrook pushed ob at SF 40 for 19 yards (M.Huff). Caught at SF 18.
Good job by OL here, for most part... Iupati came out just enough to get a block on the screen pass... Baas, not so much. good looking run by Westbrook
1st and 10 at SF 40 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short middle to F.Gore (M.Mitchell).
others did fine, but Staley was shamefully beaten by Wimbley to blow up this screen
2nd and 10 at SF 40 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short middle to T.Ginn to SF 44 for 4 yards (M.Huff).
protection held up enough for all
3rd and 6 at SF 44 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to M.Crabtree to OAK 48 for 8 yards (S.Routt). Caught at OAK 49
more stunts picked up well enough for Staley and Iupati... all did enough
1st and 10 at OAK 48 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass deep middle to J.Morgan to OAK 13 for 35 yards (S.Routt). Caught at OAK 29
all did well again... and look! we're moving the chains!
1st and 10 at OAK 13 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to V.Davis to OAK 7 for 6 yards (N.Asomugha).
OL kept a nice pocket for QB... good throw to VD
2nd and 4 at OAK 7 A.Smith spiked the ball to stop the clock.
3rd and 4 at OAK 7 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete short left to F.Gore.
OL does well... lots of coverage, and throw to Gore coming out was too high... good decision, poor pass
4th and 4 at OAK 7 J.Nedney 25 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-B.Jennings, Holder-A.Lee.
End of 2nd Quarter

Props for this oldman... I stopped doing them because I did the first half of the Chiefs game and got ripped a new one and told I didn't have a life. There are a few fans out there that appreciate this but most run along to another Alex Smith or Mike Singletary thread.

Nice to see refreshing analysis like this instead of the same drool bucket "Alexks suxorz" drivel we usually see. Thanks Oldman.

Remember, a lot of people read the message boards who don't also post. They read great stuff like what you and old did, but you don't get to hear their appreciation. In other words, if you enjoy doing it, keep it up.

1st and 10 at SF 29 A.Smith pass incomplete deep right to J.Morgan. PENALTY on OAK-L.Houston, Personal Foul, 15 yards, enforced at SF 29 - No Play. VD held LE Kelly initially, but started getting backed up quickly to QB... rest of blocking was fine... deep ball to Morgan was about 2 inches from his hands... arms were not quite fully stretched out. Really don't know why Morgan (who loves to jump for lil 10 yard hitch routes) didn't get off the ground for this one. Good coverage on his back from CB Routt
That part burns me up. Watching the game, I said something to the extent of, "That is why Josh Morgan shouldn't be on the field. A legitimate #2 makes that catch and takes it to the house. That ball was on the money and he made Smith look bad on what should have been a highlight reel TD. For anyone saying, "What?" -- Did you see Garcon the other night? That is Peyton's #3 right now, think about that.

I think this is a growing trend with WR's. They run so far they figure if it isn't right in my hands I am not going to make an effort and turn around and jog back to the huddle. I think Morgan did this a few weeks back as well. Also, the ball from Campbell in the end zone (after what should have been a safety) was over thrown a few yards to Murphy or that missed call could have cost us a TD. He didn't dive either. I don't know if it seems closer than it is because of the TV angle but I noticed a lot of WRs have stopped diving for balls.

That is why you bring in the next guy, and you keep doing it until you find the guy who brings it on every play.
I have been seeing bowman take a lot of bad angles and miss tackles. He did it against the eagles QB which would have saved a first down, but instead missed and keep the drive alive. (it would have won us the game). he is fooled by easy shakes from a QB. Is this due to being a rookie/ not enough playing time?
(also, i am one of those who is regularly on here but chooses not to comment, and i do appreciate the time of those who make sound and well thought posts.)

This is where the great debate about Alex Smith is centered. You believe that Staley is at fault for blocking his man but getting pushed backwards a few yards. I believe Alex Smith is at fault for running into pressure.
How many times have you seen Drew Brees or Tom Brady run into a sack because the pocket is getting smaller? They almost never do. Alex Smith does this all the time. It is the trait that separates poor quarterbacks from the rest.
Staley had his man blocked. In the NFL, pockets get smaller, it is rare that a pocket is perfect.
Aaron Rogers had a touchdown pass a couple of weeks ago, where he sat in a pocket that was collapsing all around him. He waited until the last second to throw the ball to a well covered receiver in the endzone. It was a touchdown.
If Alex Smith was in that same situation, there is no doubt at all that he would have given up on the play and started his "run into the defender" routine and gotten sacked.
If the defender gets the sack, he gets the sack, but at least force him to beat the tackle before you give up on the play. Quarterbacks who give up on plays don't normally last six years in the league.
This play is the epitome of Alex Smith's career. Running away from protected pockets, instead of making the tough play.
On film, that block by Staley is considered a win for the tackle. Getting pushed back a couple yards will happen, but it is no excuse to run out of the pocket. This is the type of play that shuts our offense down time and time again.
Carr, Cambell, Smith; bad quarterbacks get sacked more often for a reason; they give up on a play, more often than they make a play.

Okay, here's my problem with this. Yes, Staley was blocking his man... but... it's a reminder that all blockers
must block through the whistle. What Staley did was block well, and THEN fail to maintain his block. That is not okay with me. Iupati did the same thing the week prior and it stopped Alex from running for the first down. You block until you hear the whistle, and your QB runs for positive yards.
* and I am glad that others get something out of this... whether they respond or not.
* Gore 21 - As stated well by KT, if you enjoy doing this analysis, then proceed. That' s my main motivation... it's just extra to me if others get something out of it.
* I expect to have the 3rd Quarter completed by late afternoon.

I also agree with Brian. There are some comments in your analysis that are biased against the OL and more for Alex. In this case, Smith stepped to Staleys blocker which was the primary reason for the sack. The time in the pocke was fine and he had enough time to see that it was beginning to close in and shift up and to the right. There are also comments you made saying Smith got the pass off and the blocking was good enough. Isn't it if the QB gets the pass off without being hurried considered a well blocked play?
My point is that there have been many times in games where Smith did not shift properly or use better pocket awareness but that never gets mentioned.
Take for example your description of the bootleg play. You mention more to the OL along with a DL getting to Alex. The OL has nothing to do with that dE getting to Alex as it was a bootleg.
I will be the first to note that it is nice to have this breakdown butthere are also some personal opinions in it that just dont seem to paint the entire picture and that there are inconsistencies.

Maybe it would have been smarter to sign a veteran guard or tackle. That way they would have only had to draft either Iupati or Davis to reduce the youth on the o line. Chilo sucks all around and needs to go. Staley is playing below average every single game he's getting beat. Davis looks good one play then looks like a high schooler the next play. Iupati never seems to get low and finish off blocks. I'm not expecting them to be perfect but i am expecting them to be average.

* If you really want to dispute certain points, great. This can be used to do just that. Make your case and I will look back over the play and discuss it briefly.
JoeCool... I think everyone knows how you really feel about Alex Smith... so it's no surprise that you would try your best to discredit him in any way you can. You can spin that back on me, but I'm just being honest in my assessments here... not angling for Smith excuses.
3rd Quarter
1st and 10 at SF 21 F.Gore up the middle to SF 27 for 6 yards (T.Scott). PENALTY on OAK-R.Seymour, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at SF 21 - No Play.
really good run blocks from VD and OL here
1st and 5 at SF 26 F.Gore up the middle to SF 30 for 4 yards (M.Huff).
excellent run blocks again, particularly from Rachal and AD.
2nd and 1 at SF 30 F.Gore up the middle to SF 33 for 3 yards (T.Branch). PENALTY on SF-J.Staley, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SF 30 - No Play.
AD pulled but awkwardly tripped and fell... Baas blocked well initially, but let the DT slip free to get tackle... good call against Staley
2nd and 11 at SF 20 A.Smith pass short middle to M.Crabtree to SF 30 for 10 yards (T.Branch). Caught at SF 28.
Staley and Iupati hold up well vs the RE and RDT... Rachal gets pushed back instantly, but anchors long enough, Baas looked to help late, but didn't have an angle to... AD looked to block in, let the LE go around him, and just did.. nothing.
3rd and 1 at SF 30 F.Gore up the middle to SF 32 for 2 yards (M.Mitchell).
this short conversion up the gut was thanks to Rachal, AD, Iupati, and VD bringing the violence
* false start on Crabtree
1st and 15 at SF 27 A.Smith pass incomplete short right to N.Byham [L.Houston]. PENALTY on SF-A.Smith, Intentional Grounding, 12 yards, enforced at SF 27.
Coverage and indecision from QB kills us here. Staley and Iupati protect well... Baas does well for a while, but the DT penetrates inside once Rachal switched off... AD and Rachal do their jobs...
2nd and 27 at SF 15 (Shotgun) A.Smith sacked at SF 12 for -3 yards (T.Kelly).
There were OL just standing there, expecting to see a ball go overhead. Instead, Alex doesn't like what he sees and tries to run. * Gannon states that he was watching downfield and there was no on to throw to*
3rd and 30 at SF 12 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass incomplete deep right to T.Ginn.
Staley does fine on RE...Iupati free, and takes unneeded shot on RE... Baas loses his RDT to an inside stunt... This causes Rachal to pick him up and therefore let the LDT come through to pressure QB out of pocket... Alex completes the pass to David Carr on the sideline, nice catch, Dave!
4th and 30 at SF 12 A.Lee punts 52 yards to OAK 36, Center-B.Jennings. N.Miller to OAK 49 for 13 yards (M.Lawson).
-----
1st and 10 at OAK 49 M.Bush up the middle to SF 48 for 3 yards (J.Smith).
RG wins trench battle over Franklin here... Sopo engages extra OL, and works back inside for RB. Justin works his way into RB from the side... Willis and TKO give a shot on their OL that slip through and clog.
2nd and 7 at SF 48 J.Campbell pass incomplete short left to D.Heyward-Bey [P.Willis]. PENALTY on OAK-M.Reece, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SF 48 - No Play.
Sopo, Franklin, and Justin are swallowed up by OL and get zero push up front... Haralson gets excellent outside pressure, but FB picks him up and QB steps inside of him... Willis gets into QB's face there late just before the ball comes out... pretty decent Goldson coverage. Ball was very high and props to DHB for leaping and nearly 1-handing it
2nd and 17 at OAK 42 (Shotgun) M.Bush up the middle to OAK 43 for 1 yard (P.Willis).
RayMac and Justin were spread out wide, so there became a huge hole up the A gap... huge props to Willis for quickly dispatching the oncoming center and making a violent tackle on RB
3rd and 16 at OAK 43 (Shotgun) J.Campbell scrambles right end to 50 for 7 yards (A.Brooks).
crazy looks from our D, as EVERYONE was standing and ready... only sent 4... Justin fighting with double team... excellent pressure from RayMac to beat the RG, but he couldn't keep hold of QB, who scrambled out... nice open field tackle by Brooks to save the 1st down
4th and 9 at 50 S.Lechler punts 41 yards to SF 9, Center-J.Condo, fair catch by T.Ginn. Penalty on SF, Defensive 12 On-field, declined.
-----
* very key defensive stop there, as they had great field position to extend their lead... I honestly did not expect to see Alex come back in
-----
1st and 10 at SF 9 F.Gore up the middle to SF 15 for 6 yards (T.Kelly).
good block by Baas on LDT... Iupati was good on his RDT block at 1st, but let him slip off... Staley helped Iupati until he slipped off and fell down... nice VD block on OLB... good pull block Rachal on incoming RE... AD crashed in, had no one to hit, got away with a push in the back on LE to help spring Gore... Norris hit nothing on his lead block
2nd and 4 at SF 15 F.Gore up the middle to SF 20 for 5 yards (T.Kelly).
easy block by Staley on RE as play was away from him.. Iupati pulled effectively to block LB and give Gore that extra few... Baas kept the RDT away nicely... Rachal and AD doubled the LDT well enough... VD and Norris blocked well to keep the LE and OLB busy
1st and 10 at SF 20 A.Smith pass short right to N.Byham to SF 27 for 7 yards (S.Routt). Caught at SF 20.
overload blitz strongside forced a super-quick throw... Rachal did his job. Would have liked to see Baas show awareness and help rather than help left.. AD helping in while letting LE through freely.
2nd and 3 at SF 27 F.Gore up the middle to SF 27 for no gain (M.Shaughnessy).
Baas does good job on RDT... Iupati pulled well to block LE... AD did well to chip LDT on his way to block LB... Rachal did nicely on LDT... VD did well occupying OLB... The RE blew up Morgan back into Norris, and made the tackle... embarassing the two, and pizzing away good up front blocks. ( the RE was not Staley's man, as he was crashing in for 2nd level blocks
3rd and 3 at SF 27 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short left to M.Crabtree to SF 34 for 7 yards (K.Wimbley). Caught at SF 33.
The ONLY OL not getting shoved back quickly toward QB was Baas and Rachal... pocket collapsed with the quickness. Baas was free + did okay on helping Iupati
Crabtree having words with Asomugha, lol... love it!
1st and 10 at SF 34 (Shotgun) Direct snap to F.Gore. F.Gore right tackle to SF 45 for 11 yards (K.Wimbley).
Alex sold the play-fake very well.... VD really shoved LE away from rush lane... AD pulled but dove and missed low block... Baas pulled and made the key block... Iupati did well in clearing the eventual lane by moving out the RDT... Staley pulled in, but never had much chance to block anyone... Rachal couldn't quite block the LDT, but it proved inconsequential... good block from Morgan on LB... Gore made the most of the play with great vision
1st and 10 at SF 45 A.Smith right end pushed ob at SF 46 for 1 yard (K.Wimbley).
looked like a screen design, but Baas never put a hand on the RDT, who shot through and sent QB scrambling out of pocket...
2nd and 9 at SF 46 A.Smith pass short middle to D.Zeigler to OAK 48 for 6 yards (C.Johnson).
RE shoved Staley, and had an easy path to QB if not for the quick throw... Iupati did well on RDT... Baas was free and stood guard... Rachal and AD did fine on the LDT and LE...
3rd and 3 at OAK 48 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to V.Davis to OAK 43 for 5 yards (T.Branch). PENALTY on OAK-C.Johnson, Defensive Holding, 5 yards, enforced at OAK 48 - No Play. Caught at OAK 46.
Iupati beaten badly around outside shoulder by RDT... pocket was gradually collapsing.
1st and 10 at OAK 43 A.Smith pass incomplete short right to J.Morgan [T.Scott].
misdirection bootleg fails instantly, as the blitzing LB from play-side came straight through thanks to a non-existent Morgan block. Alex looks fed up with Morgan
2nd and 10 at OAK 43 F.Gore up the middle to OAK 41 for 2 yards (T.Branch).
Staley walls off RE... Iupati pulls inside... Bass keeps RDT busy... Rachal and AD team on LDT... VD on LE... Norris on OLB... no one is getting any real push though
3rd and 8 at OAK 41 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to T.Ginn to OAK 22 for 19 yards (C.Johnson). Caught at OAK 34.
blocking does enough on this super-quick slant pass, but Alex would have been crushed by the free blitzing safety, had he not thrown it at that moment
1st and 10 at OAK 22 A.Smith pass incomplete short left. PENALTY on SF-A.Smith, Intentional Grounding, 10 yards, enforced at OAK 22.
blocking held up well... can not believe they called this intentional grounding... Morgan and Alex pleading their case... Singletary outraged... saying "how can you not see that?" the crowd is pizzed... announcers beside themselves...
2nd and 20 at OAK 32 (Shotgun) A.Smith pass deep middle to M.Crabtree for 32 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
Staley struggles with outside rush from RE, but does just enough... all others did their jobs... TD !
End of 3rd Quarter
