Pretty sure Alex had similar Red Zone stats last year while Davis was at Rutgers.

Never seen such bad luck with any player...but your right. His tipped passes are always around a defender. And the deep INT's is because of pressure. Maybe he needs to carry some kind of lucky charm during the game or something.

He has a tendency to stare the location of the throw. Generally, this causes more people to hover in that area which could be a reason why there seems to always be someone there when the ball is tipped.

Also, we have two rookies on the OL. They need some help from the QB and RB a little. So far, this is the same statement that was repeatedly made for an inexperienced Alex Smith and to a lesser degree, is still being made for Alex Smith.

Why don't we help these rookies by keeping in a guy to help block or more movement by the QB?

Alex has actually had pretty good presence in the pocket this year and is using his feet to step up or slide out of trouble much better than he ever did in the past.

Yes he has and it is helping our tackles. There are also times when he leaves the pocket way too early but he has gotten better.

I'm still pissed that we don't help out A. Davis a little more. If Gore chips on that last play, then we are in FG range. These are the situations where our veteran QB and RB need to help more. Alex should have seen that coming and held onto to it or stepped up but he was hit as if it was his back side.

Collinsworth also called out another strategy the Defensive Front is pulling on our Rookie Tackle: They are stunting but instead of having the DT stunt completely around Davis, his is charging Davis and then taking a "V" line straight to the QB.

Collinsworth analyzed this game better than any analyst I have heard in a long time now. He didn't generalize and got into some nice details. Very informational.
Davis will be a good OT in this league...just not yet. He's very young, and would have benefitted greatly from staying at Rutgers for his senior season. I think too many expected both he and Iupati would just hit the ground running and everything would be fine. It seldom works that way in the NFL...both guys are struggling. Davis' work just shows up more in a negative fashion because he's on the edge. He'll be fine...in time. Trouble is, Alex is running for his life most of the time. Not all AD's fault...he hasn't had a lot of help on the right side. He's young and raw...give the kid time and he'll be just fine.
Offensive line has been horrendous so far. They had an okay game against the Saints but other than that it looks pretty bleak. I hope we bench Rachal and start Snyder.
Chilo Rachal is the major problem with the OLine. Keep him on the bench and put in Snyder. It is not a coincidence that the two times that Snyder replaced Chilo Rachal the OLine played ten times better.

Let's give the rookies till the end of the season before we take them out and shoot them. Alex Smith doesn't have good pocket awareness, unfortunately that can't be coached. He SUCKS, if you gave him the hogs from the 83 Redskins he would still throw picks while getting hit. This isn't college where you can drop back and stand on point x for 5 seconds surveying the field. Some QBs can adjust to having 2.5 seconds to throw, others can't. Alex Smith is in the can't category.

Have to counteract the "Nothing is ever Alex's fault crowd." I also didn't say anything that was not correct. Too many times Smith doesn't get the ball out fast enough, and can't feel the rush. I will replace "he sucks" with "he doesn't have the tools to be a successful NFL quarterback."

I haven't seen one person say that "nothing is ever Alex's fault" I have however seen logical posters who see the entire picture and realize that football is a team sport. These posters also see that Smith isn't playing as bad as some make it out to be. Yes he makes mistakes, but hell who on the team isn't? Gore has a new case of fumblitis, nedney is missing field goals, the defense can't stop the run or the pass and the coaching staff doesn't have a clue wtf they are doing with the offense or defense. The coaching staff has been trying to force a square peg into a round hole with Smith. He and the rest of the team for that matter EXCEL in a passing spread style offense. You don't believe me? Go look at the games from last year and the games from this year when the team turned to the spread offense. Take off the hater glasses and open your eyes. This isn't a Smith problem it is a "wow this team can't do s**t right" problem.
HEy zone,

ANy body else think bass should slide over and eric should come back in???

I think its horrible chilo next to Davis causes most of our mistakes occur right over there.

Has any of the beat writers addressed this subject? its like the most obvious move for a change.... besides getting norris off the field, using westbrook, going shotgun, and some more run's up the middle but they all seem like smart moves..... tooo smart ....???
Maiocco just said that Chilo Rachal played his best game of the season. WTF is he smoking.
