Be proactive, not reactive.
Yes. We may support a losing team but at least we will have clearer skin with fewer blemishes

I can appreciate a writer pointing stuff out, but he does it in a... provocative manner. I mostly stay away from Cohn and only read what Barrows and Maiocco write. Most 49er fans know Barrows and Maiocco for their reporting of the news. Most 49er fans know Cohn as the guy who got into a touchy conversation with Singletary at a press conference. Overall, he's right that our franchise is in disarray though.
Barrows and Maiocco are great for fast and complete inside info, but they need fan support or they get fired. They can't afford to make make aggressive negative statements about the team, even if true, because the fan base will turn on them, as will 49ers mgmt, and their career as highly followed beat writers will be over.......
Cohn, Kawakami, and Ann Killion all write brutally honest articles because they have more of an arms length distance from the team (but not from the team info) and know they aren't competing in a popularity contest. I like their approach much better.
Actually there's no way in hell they can be privy to all of the inside info that EB, MB and MM have because they are in fact at arms length.
They all have their place. There is a price to playing nice: You can't write about everything you see. There is price to being brutally honest: Less access.
The pricks you mention do a lot of speculating which at times is fascinating but rarely is all that accurate.

So what did he say that wasn't true. Do really think that Sing or Smith will be with the Niners next year?

I doubt if the Yorks will make a move. They think that there might not be a season next year, so why pay two HCs. Singletary can coach a striking team as well as anybody.
If memory serves, ASmith was Singletary's third choice for QB, behind such stalwarts as JTO and Shawn Hill (nice game yesterday, btw). That says about everything we need to know about his confidence in Smith. Of course, now he's too pigheaded to make a move, and the more the fans complain, the stubborner he gets.
Oh well, the Giants are doing well, and it's almost basketball season.

Cohn is right on the money.
We need to dump Singletary and let the team start developing player leadership during the crisis.

He is actually correct, although, who would take over for him? There are no canidates... I don't think Manusky is ready.

+1
+2 Take off the homer shades guys. He's right. If you have talent and you lose, it's the coach.

Singletary obviously isn't. Worst case scenario, we lose. Guess what, we're doing that now. Any other team with expectations like ours would fire his ass immediately.

If we did fire Sing and bench Smith, what then?
We'll see the same results only worse because now the team is in more crap then it was before. Players wont play because every things up in the air and theres so much unrest that nothing these players in 9ers uniform would matter.
1st down: Carr sacked
2nd down: Gore for -4yrds
3rd down: Carr throws to Crabtree, intercepted.
We are between a rock and a hard place. If we drop the only thing we know we go into the unknown and we become every other teams b***hes. Players may not care so much or play that extra effort because its a now fast sinking ship because we just threw the commander chief and his first officer off the boat! Which mean less people to bail this season out.
We gotta ride this thing out. Better the devil you know then the one you dont I say.
Hate the way things are going but I dont want to even consider the alternatives.
firing them is the only light at the end of the tunnel. this season is a wash, but firing them at least offers the glimmer of a chance that thing will change for the better down the road.
nothing can happen until that step is taken.
The first problem with that theory is that the same people who brought both Sing and Smith here, the Yorks, are still making all the moves, so I am not confident they will be able to make it right the second time around. And the second problem is that Gruden may be willing to come here, but the reason the team didn't pursue a coach of his caliber to begin with was because these b*****ds, the York's, dont' want to break no bread for a Gruden/Cowher type coach. I agree with the glimmer of hope, but at this point, the real glimmer will be a move to LA because we would no doubt get another team in SF like the Browns did in the Ravens situation or a sell of the team. Other than that...
I'm pretty sure that, if the team moves to LA, they'll take the name and history with them.

but really at what point do they pull the trigger. The problem starts with ownership and it stinks right on down to the head coach. After watching this team through 5 weeks it is apparent that Singletary is not cut out to be a head coach. He is outcoached every game by a large margin because I dont think he knows how to coach and like Cahn said what does he even bring to the table now other than looking like a fool every week. Not to mention Alex Smith plays like a rookie with firecrackers in his pants.
