you're right, the WR's don't try to catch the ball when Smith is the QB. The DB's make more of an effort to catch the same ball than our WR's do (example: last week the pass to morgan where he watched it go by and the DB dover for it and almost picked it off) How can a QB be successful with WR's like this? Even HOF QB's throw off target, the difference is their WR's go up and get the ball.
Guess the only thing left to do is get rid of Smith then...
Yea because that worked out well Smith wasn't on the field.
dude, what are you gonna do when Alex is gone? seriously... he's a nice guy, however suxs playing football...
well unlike some of the blatant haters I maintain a neutral position with Smith until he finally proves he will not be the future or he is the future. So far he has been showing that he needs to get his ass sat down on the bench. But I also see that the coaching staff is not playing towards Smith's strengths. Look at Kyle Orton, he SUCKED! in Chicago, then goes to Denver and is put in a system that plays toward his strengths and now he leads the NFL best passing offense as of right now.
I agree with you. Smith still has a few more games that need to be seen. The only difference we have is that I already feel he hasn't shown me that "it" from all of his starts overall. Kyle Orton isn't a good example to use in defending Smith. He's had some jaw-dropping throws even while in Chicago. Much more than Alex Smith. Kyle Orton, in his 4th year in Chicago (only 33 starts under his belt) had a solid year with less talent on offense than we have.
You say you look for Smith to show he has "it", but you fail to recognize anything positive he does. Smith threw some beautiful passes against NO. Smith performs very well out of a spread style offense. The problem isn't so much Smith(while yes he has a lot of the blame because he just can't stop throwing the ball to the other team) but most of it is the fact that he is in the wrong type of system. Now don't pull this a good QB will perform in any system BS. Look at Steve Young and Brett Favre. They both started their careers out in the wrong system, move on and into the right system. Again look at Favre, he sucked for the Jets, then goes to Min in a familiar system( similar to GB) and bam MVP. All QB's are a product of their system.
He's still Mr. Checkdown. In one of his best games last year against Jax when we spread it out, Gore was our leading receiver with 7 catches.
Yes, he played well on that last drive but he also made mistakes, which I'm fine with. But don't do it for 4 games straight and start finding your receivers. He threw one nice ball that day and it appeared to be a prayer (Morgan catch).
Seriously, take a look at the majority of his completions, they are to receivers who are College level wide open. He just doesn't let it go to a guy who's NFL open.
