The best Niner RB ever retired suddenly this year.

there's several hall of fame runningbacks in this franchises history, and another one that should be in the HOF. Frank isn't at their level yet, but its hard to ignore his production. He is certainly the best pure runner we've had in the last 30 or so years, and maybe ever.
he is one of my all-time favorite Niners though, FWIW.

Ricky Watters could have had the record.
I love me some Frank but he will now be judged according to jewelry
Why? Gore's accomplishments should stand alone when talking about his personal stats. Qb position is one thing to judge based on rings, but not RB. Especially since the Rb's back then were an afterthought.

If you look at his contribution cumulatively over his career, and how much he has been an individual contributor to the offense (when everyone else has sucked around him quite often), I'd say he is the best overall football player that played as RB for the 49ers.

I'd take him over Craig Watters Hearst
can't say about the hall of famers from 50 years ago, Joe Perry and Hugh McElhenny

Yes Gore is the best, I also thought Hearst was right there with Craig. When Hearst went down Charlie Graner played real well for us.

It is incredible what gore can do after initial contact.
He is underrated as the top rb in the league

For a small dude, he really likes pass protection because he likes to hit people! His pad level is lower so it's easy for him to out-leverage the LBs and DBs coming in on the blitz.
It's fun watching him destroy fools on blitz pickups.

Gore is very good but he isn't the best ever.
Joe Perry, Hugh McElhenny and John Henry Johnson are all in the HOF. Perry had the most 100 yard games but he was playing when there were only 12 games in a season.
Perry had the quintessential balance of speed and power.
McElhenny was just electric. He had moves that only Barry Sanders ever equalled. Too bad there is so little film of him.
Johnson went on to have some big years with Pittsburg so he may not be thought of in quite the same way as the others.
Gore is one of the top 2 or 3 backs in the league, and may go on to HOF numbers but he will have to stay injury free and that won't be easy with his running style.

Gore= best all around RB but i think Hearst was the best runner weve had, that guy had top speed and he could crawl out of a huge pile almost everytime and get positive yards. i dunno, always had a soft spot for Hearst but Gore and him are tied in my eyes.

I don't necessarily agree ...... they had better Offensive lines , better QB'ing and more talentin general around them during their whole careers here. IMHO.
Frank Gore has done a dam good job with a lack of talent around him which means teams have had an easier time of keying on him. IMHO
