Alex knows the plays fine. He doesn't need a wristband. The OC needs to enunciate clearly and he needs to stop fumbling through papers and get the plays in to the lineup in time.
That's not the issue. The issue is SPEED. This way, all Raye has to say, for example, is "5! 5!" and Alex can then look at the band, see play #5 and call the actual play in detail in the huddle.
Raye will still be fumbling through his papers and won't be able to find them fast enough. Plus with his pronunciation "55" will sound like "65." There will be screw ups let me assure you...
Maybe. But the wristband has nothing to do with whether or not Smith knows the plays. That was your initial complaint:

Sure it has more to do with Raye than Alex. That's obvious. But how does it help Raye pronounce the words better? Of fumble through his papers better?

This is just embarrasing. No other team in the league has these problems. This is the NFL. And we can't get the plays in on time or say them clearly enough...
That is why they got Alex a box of cereal today that had the Jimmy Raye wristband decoder ring in it. That alleviates any confusion because the decoder is able to decipher Jimmy's real intent.

Great...
I can hear the play-by-play team call the action now:
"...and Smith launches a pass deep downfield -- and Michael Crabtree hauls in the WRISTBAND FOR A TOUCHDOWN!!!"
Meanwhile -- yet another errant Smith pass lands in nearby Alpine County.

This team is so funny. I don't hear or see any stuff like this with any other team in the league.

IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY. But that was not your initial complaint! You changed the argument.
That said, "FIVE" is easier to pronounce and understand than a lengthy play call.
IMO, Raye still needs to get all the plays on one laminated "cheat sheet" to avoid paper fumbling and delay.
