This team is built to run a Mike Martz offense.

Sorry, I have to disagree. We have wideouts that are better at run blocking than running pass routes. They do not have either the speed or quickness to run the Martz offense. Even Crabtree is lacking. Think of guys like Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce in their prime and you will see a huge difference. They were only mediocre blockers but they could run that 17 yard turn-in like no one else.

We have now started another season with the same man blocking OL scheme that resulted in comparatively little success for Frank last year. Take away three longs runs where the defense just flat blew it and he had a disappointing year.

Ugrade the quarterback to someone who stands tall in the pocket, and throws with accuracy, instead of changing the whole offense to suit someone that can't do these things. A foundation isn't strong if it anchors against a weak spot.

I bring this up because I think this is what needs to be addressed. Do you guys remember last season when we lost to the Packers? We almost came back when we started using the spread. Then ALEX SMITH, VERNON DAVIS & MICHAEL CRABTREE all when to coach Sing & expressed the desire to use the Spread more. Which we did in our next game....WE WON THAT ONE. WE HAVE LOOKED BETTER IN A SPREAD.
I know we needed Jimmy Raye to stay on as OC for continuity but, I believe now more than ever that maybe, JUST MAYBE HIS OFFENSE WON'T WORK.
In short, we have the Players....but not in the right system....
Maybe? You think it's a question that run, run, run, punt MAYBE won't work in a passing league.
LOL, some of you are so disillusioned by the Media it's funny. In every quarter, we Passed more than we Ran on Sunday.
Yup. 19 Rushing to 45 Passing attempts. Yup it's the scheme.
It's funny how little emphasis is placed on being prepared. Tree was NOT prepared and it came back and bit us in the ass when one pass hit him in the shoulderpad and he didn't sit down and instead ran to the sideline. On top of that he never even made a play on the DB. That's the very definition of being unprepared. No no.1 in the history of the game is that unprepared. Rice had a bad Rookie season, but he was PREPARED. Nobody blamed Joe for anything that hit his Receiver. But our Receivers get an exemption for it. Can someone please teach the youngsters how to be a fan? Please?

all sing wants to do is pound the rock. that's the system. he hired jimmy raye to pound the rock. so really if that's the system they're running that they sure as f**k have the right coach and OC to run this team....into the ground.

FYI, last Sunday there were 45 pass attempts, and 19 rushing attempts.

We have all the right players, for this system, except a QB. Alex simply looks more comfortable in the spread. Frank Gore on the other hand looks better out of the I-formation, same dilemma as last year. CJ Spiller, or Javad Best would have looked good running from the spread, and I'm sure we could have found an adequate QB either in the draft or through free agency. We chose not to, the season has started and we gotta dance with the girl we brung!
The drafting of Davis was a puzzler for me, we had Simms, we had Boone, and Snyder we were not desperate for a tackle. A speed back would have been great insurance as Frank ages and we seem to be unable to give up on Alex so we really should have picked up a back who has run from the spread in collage.
I said all this before and after the draft, last sundays debacle left me confident in my statements, as good as our draft was, it could have been better. Imagine if every thing else had gone the same, but we traded down for Spiller instead of Davis!
We have all the players for either a power team or a spread team except our QB doesn't match our aging RB. we need to make a commitment to one or the other because this team is not as young as Sing keeps saying it is.

...and that is the problem. 45 attempts at the same vanilla stuff that has already failed is a reflection of the systemic problem with this offense.
Further, the team had to attempt those 45 passes because the vanilla running game, based on an outdated OL blocking scheme had failed also.

This! Also, we have 2 stellar TEs that can do all kinds of things in our current system, but were only used as blocking dummies in Martz' system. This is a TE and RB-friendly system and we have great talent at both positions.

yeah because we got behind from running into the back of our linemen on retarded down and distances...not because we were planning on airing it out
kind of like last year where we'd pound it in the first half and then spread it out in the second half because we were forced to play catch up
