Was he hurt? If he was healthy, why not pair him up with Frank Gore in the backfield? It gives Alex one more weapon and BW is very dangerous with the screen pass. Even with Norris in the game, Frank was only averaging 2.2 yards a carry. Why not make an adjustment on the fly and insert BW?
Even if Alex's endzone pass was high, I bet BW would have had a 50/50 chance to catch it.

it wouldn't have helped. somehow, we would have managed turning a seeming positive decision--putting two great RB's on the field at the same time--into a double negative.
