Singletary is stupid. There's no other way to put it. You can tell he isn't very educated and because of this, he's unable to grasp the complexities of an offense or a defense.
He was never a coordinator...anyone wonder why? Most NFL coaches become HCs after successful tenures as coordinators. Our dumbass management named Sing the permanent HC without considering this fact. He has to RELY on his coordinators to make calls. I bet he doesn't call any plays...he just decides if the team should go for it on 4th down or not.
Lets not forget that Sing had ZERO connections to OCs coming into this job as well...hence his barber shop bud Jimmy Raye taking the job.
He's nothing but a motivational speaker...a cheerleader. That only goes so far. You have to have, you know, a plan.

In a game with time constraints like the play clock, it seems the basic communication model would work best. One sender to get the message to the receiver of the message.
I fear our coaching staff lacks the sophistication of working with a modern day team in a modern day game.
Hurry up and send the damn message!
You lose about 5-7 seconds relaying the play to a thid party. Why not just Jimmy Raye send it directly to Alex. Why put Mike Johnson in the mix? What's he gonna do?...
Mike Johnson to Jimmy Raye: "Oh coach, I think that's a bad call we should call this one instead!... No the other play!... The one we practiced when Crabtree dropped the ball on Wednesday! Yeah, that's the one!... Wait. Hello? Are you still there? Aw crap, time's up!!... Uh, Alex, just call a HB Power on the A gap, just like always."

I'm an Alex homer, but he needs to grow some balls and stop acting like a retard on the field.
Call your own plays if the sh*t goes down.
Stop being a b*tch.
You have two pro bowlers, and a about 5-6 first round picks on your offensive side.

Coach Sing, let Jimmy Raye remain down on the sidelines and call relay plays from there. It is obvious that the call from the booth is not working.

Since Mike Johnson is the middle man between Smith and Raye, here's what I think the 49ers need to do.
Move Johnson up to the booth, get him off the sidelines, let him take over the playcalling duties (its not like it could be worse).
The plays will get in quicker since they won't be going through a 3rd person and Raye will pretty much be removed from the play selection process. This way we can get rid of him at the end of the season and Johnson can get the experience he needs.
I'm sick and tired of the 49ers always having "headset issues". It seems to happen to them more then any other team and I'm starting to lean towards it being BS.

lol..
or...
It's 4th and goal? Give it to the guy on the field with the least amount of playmaking abilities (Norris).
It's 4th and goal again? pass it to the guy with the worst hands on the field (Norris).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believes it's a league rule that you can't communicate direct from upstairs to the field.

Blunt....but true. Coaches like that can still succeed though...they just pick good coordinators to handle the technical stuff, and delegate authority accordingly.
Singletary's problem is that he picked poor coordinators.
Martz was by no means perfect, but he was light years better than this. Why Singletary saw fit to fire him (only to replace him with a half-dead Raye) continues to bother me.
I think Singletary saw Martz as a threat to his authority, and basically made a totally political move in firing him.

Good point, Joebadass.
The Redskins had a similar relay system last season when they opted to bring in a "offensive play caller" to augment their HC's lack luster play calling. As a consequence, the Skins wound up with this A/B/C system that the Niners have been using and, like the Niners, their clock management fell to pieces. The relay must interject at least 3-5 seconds into the process. While that may not seem like a lot, when you consiser the frequency with which 0:01 and "hike" occur, even during the first quarter, that's an eternity.

What I dont get is how is there any possible miscommunication when everyone knows we're gonna run the ball up Baas's back? 47 times right up the gut for nothing... Even our bread and butter play has a hard time getting snapped with more than ONE second on the clock! JEEESUS!

That could be true, but Nolan would have probably tried to convert Taylor Mays into an OLB already.

this kind of confirms what I felt while watching the game yesterday: the most blame (though not all of it) is on the coaches. We were unprepared and disorganized. That is inexcusable.

can't they just send in a spy to any of the other 31 teams headquarters? No other team seems to have this problem, not for 2 seasons at least
