Afrikan, i have posted early on, several mos ago, that with the talent that has been put on the team, should we come up with vanilla O, followed up by vanilla D, and play
"Not to lose" that bigmike's job is going to be finished this yr. The playcalling, the blitzing(because we can't cover), the guttiness of this team, the potential 3 all star OLs, p52, crabs, vernon, frank, AD for heaven's sakes, adding westbrook, and Ginn..man, that all sets up for a good season to be had by this team. If bigmike goes all wobbly on us and we see 3 and outs, standard 7-8 yd gimmes on D because our DBs are 10 yds off LOS, then yeah, the media will be all over MS, and...he will deserve it. He brot stability in JRae as OC, but he did not bring innovation nor brilliance. He better have a cabal that plans for each game, and for all exigencies, or he is done at end of this yr unless we just fold up like a cheap tent and lose 'em all. Then he gets his walking papers sooner.
My preference obviously is for bigmike to succeed. But if he gives us more of his last one and a half yrs of playcalling, both O and D, he is adios, toast, bye bye. Should he take the makings of a very very good team and have this team lose because it got outcoached, I will be at the head of the line asking for his firing. ACtually, he is in great shape, but he just has to resist that urge that has bedeviled so many other good coaches who failed...playing not to lose. He does that, he loses me, the media, and his bossman, who also writes his checks.

the thing is does he really believe in Alex....and does he care about his job...
both HAVE to be true...and if that is the case, then he will have Alex throw early and often and let us put points on the board as soon as possible with all the weapons we have.....
the thing about the way Sing coaches and also why I would not advice any gambler to bet on the 9ers to cover anything is because if we are up by 3 or 7 points, we have shown in the past to try to run out the clock from the start of the 4th QTR or something, lol.
if we really tried to put teams away, we would have passed against the Vikings when we had the lead on that last drive before we had to punt to them.....
that is what I'm worried about this year, that nothing has changed.....we will get a 7 point lead and will try to get in field goal range in the beginning of the 4th QTR...instead of really calling plays to where we would rather have a 14 point lead...
it was the same thing when Nolan was here.....we don't go out there to put teams away....instead we play to not lose...but still usually lose at the end .
the difference now is the Media knows what ticks off Sing...if we struggle because of trust of Alex then he will get called out....which will result in him getting ...in his mind "how dare these non-football player losers question me"...or at least that is what he puts off.
if Alex struggles...then the Media will ask about Carr....and Singletary will be like ಠ_ಠ

Sing will moon them, and send them to the locker room, but by mid-season, The Media will be one of the team captains. Then he'll cut The Media for Tremaine Brock.

Pasodoc49 - Thanks for the post. I couldn't agree more.

If Sing goes all ultra-conservative on us and plays not to lose, I dont think it has anything to do with Alex Smith. It has to do with his philosophy and that's what scares me. I just dont see us blowing out a team, unless it comes from the defense.
I like Sing alot, but this team is too talented not to make some noise in the playoffs.

Oh give it a rest.
All this over Nate Davis? The guy who hadn't learned the playbook in 2 years? The guy who laid an egg against the Raiders D-sqaud?
What would they say that if Nate Davis were on the team everything would be ok?
I think it is more to do with our refusal to bring in good QBs...or at least ones to can compete for the starting job...
you have to wonder....if we struggle this year, will offensive players like Vernon Davis resign?... I think not, and he could be a HOF type player.....as well as players on our defense.... Patrick Willis seems like a loyal guy...but I can see Goldson leaving...
but also Diva type players like Crabtree asking for a trade.....
its not all about Nate Davis....its the fact that we are going into the season with David Carr as our backup.....backing up Alex Smith who is still a mystery.....the thing about Nate is, although Nate is Raw and inexperience...he usually is a good passer and more importantly does a better job hitting our receivers in stride, as well as hitting our RBs out of the backfield in stride as well.....
but again not just about Nate...more so our overall QB situation in general.....we traded a guy who won for us in the past, who could've been a good backup for a #1 Bust in David Carr......mainly for Alex not to look over his shoulder....I personally think something is wrong with that.
Did you even watch the preseason games man? Not only was he not hitting receivers in stride, he wasn't even throwing them catchable balls for the majority of the time he was out there. It is obvious that he didn't get any better from last preseason, man you guys are blinded by your bias against Smith.
I watched every preseason game and watched it more than once....he hit receivers in stride most of the time....heck even though they were 3rd stringers....
I think you bias for Alex has gotten in your way.....
this will be an entertaining season.
How can a guy that completed less than 50% of his passes have hit receivers in stride? He missed more than he even hit. He are the facts...
Nate Davis preseason stats
I think they speak for themselves. As I said, he was the worst QB on the roster this preseason.
well I'm obviously talking about passes that were completed or in the vicinity...not throw aways....or drops that were the receivers fault like Byhm one.
We call those Natexcuses around here just so you know

When reasonable people said the same about Smith, they were called Alexcuses.

This really isn't media oriented team anymore. I don' think you get much difference in responses from Singletary whether the media is being friendly or ripping him.

did you watch any of the press conferences last year toward the end of the season? It got very awkward when a reporter basically told Sing "don't pep talk us as if we are your players"...basically cut the BS.

the media would act the same way toward the HC of any team that has high expectations and isn't producing.
