If the Niners were just going to release Nate Davis anyways, why didn't they try to pickup Matt Leinart?
If not to play, at least to get some info on the Cardinals.
Nate Davis definitely wasn't great, but we better have someone as the 3rd QB who knows how to play QB. Injuries and bad QB play happens, especially with the niners.
(UPDATE: I actually wrote this before reading the Troy Smith pickup. At least they were actively looking for a QB)
