I thought the play book was like 800 pages. Doubt we could use the whole book and give up all our secrets. Stop repeating sound bites you haven't actually thought about.
We had a 2-1 a 3-1 and 4-1.
Jimmy Raye 49er Playbook:
Page 1, paragraph 1, sentence 1: Run ball up middle.
we can run up the middle fine (see Gore/Westy) when Dixon isn't dancing behind the line.
Lets not confuse Gore's amazing ability with the playcalling of Jimmy Raye.
that amazing ability is the number one reason why we do run up the middle.
If that's Jimmy's best play, maybe we shouldn't run it in the preseason? Now Seatle knows
are you ever going to stop being negative nancy? throughout the entire Oakland game, you couldn't say one good thing about the Niners in the gameday thread. maybe you should consider becoming a fan of another team if you are so troubled by what the Niners are doing in preseason.

Does the OP take into consideration this is the preseason and wise OC's do not give away the surprises until the games count?

Smith will be running the offense by season's end, rest assured.

Here is a great article to put the preseason into prespective. I wouldn't worry about loosing a game or 2 or maybe all of them.

It's Pre-season. It's glorified practice. What better way to work on your runs up the middle when the D knows it's coming. Our Oline needs all the work it can get.
We have two count em two rookies and a new center for our Oline. Baby steps people baby steps.

our best player is good at running up the middle. see 2 rushes for 58 yards Gore, Frank. its preseason. we play these clowns later in the year so why show them anything of substance to game plan on? u really think theyre gonna be rushing and throwing to norris on the outside in the regular season when we have westbrook and gore? they try things in the preseason to see what their players are good and bad at, they cant afford to experiment like that in regular season so they play around in the preseason. alex, sing and everyone has already said they dont gameplan in the preseason, im pretty sure only the raiders do that. and as far as raye i think u guys should cut the guy some slack, to transform a teams philosophy mid season and adapt to a different style of QB play is pretty tough, its a wonder they won as many games as they did making so many changes midseason. i think we'll be just fine when games start to actually matter. besides alex smith will probably be calling his own plays by midseason anyway so dont trip.

Play calling will change because the arsenal of players is much improved. Line play will be better and Raye will have more confidence in going deep into the playbook.
The offense will look much different because it will now be executing the plays as designed.

I sure hope so. This way he can call his plays without waiting for the coaches to give it to him. I wonder how they (the coaches) felt when Alex told the media that all of his tools were gone as a QB, due to plays coming in so late.

And I think that's a shame...because I saw our starters make some pretty impressive plays out there. They're basically going to have to fight not only with their opponent, but Raye's garbage playcalling.
How many more 3rd and long draws are we going to see, even if it's Brian Westbrook with the ball now? Eventually, even the quality of your personnel cannot cover up the stench of crappy playcalling. The calls have no rhythm, no cadence. No sense of balance, and no serious read of the defense.
It's really muchado about nothing when your top 3 lethal weapons aren't even playing on the field!

Actually this thread is about playcalling.

Many good posters tried to point that out to him, especially considering we play the same team in the season when it counts, but alas, he still just isn't getting it.

Don't worry.
I took a look at Raye's playbook, and we have the same amount of pass plays as we do run plays.
Take a look.

honestly DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THE PLAYCALLING IN PRESEASON!!!
it's not meant to help win a game or even be indicative of what will happen during
the regular season. it's meant to give coaches very specific insights on certain things.
for instance...
- during the indy game, they INTENTIONALLY did not give help to rookie a.davis vs.
pro-bowler r.mathis just to see how he would handle being overmatched. in the
reg season he would have gotten help and that could have generated better O,
but would not have served the purpose of pre-season... to get your team better.
- we INTENTIONALLY ran straight ahead at the minn vikes highly touted run D,
so that sing could make a point to his young and developing OL that we still have
a ways to get to where we need to be. more creative play calling might have
opened up some things, but would not have served the purpose of pre-season...
to get your team better.
jimmy raye's play-calling was pretty good for the 2nd half of last year, and i
imagine will improve this year now that everyone's getting MUCH more comfortable
with the O.
guys... JUST RELAX!!! ...preseason means squat. just ask the colts every year.

It's a shame that there are really people out there that think it's important and should show the real playbook.
The play book is TWO feet thick. Stop it already with this "showing them our playbook" s**t. How many different plays were actually called Sat. night? Maybe 25-30.
You are being silly with this talk
If a team wants to use this past game to prepare for us 10 weeks from now, let them
Hey Mex, it's not just Niner fans talking out the side of their azz. If you do some research you'll find that most NFL Coaches and sports analyst agree; you don't show your goods in preseason. This might not make sense you but people who do this for a living all agree, and that's not a knock on you dude. Just my 2-cents.

No, I'm evaluating the play calling...it sucks. Nothing I've heard so far from the resident crew of homers has changed that opinion.
The players did well given the plays they were asked to execute.
