I was looking for a link to the article the OP's post was based on.

Its hard to be excited about a team with questions at quarterback, but EVERY team in the NFC West has questions at quarterback.

We are infinitely more talented then those other teams at almost every position on the field besides quarterback, where we are on par at worst.

Best RB, TE, LT, LG, C* (Our BACKUP TE is just as good as any other starter in the West)
Best DL (Overall better than the Cards)
Best LB's (Without a doubt)
Best CB's (Spencer and Clements are the best overall corners in the West)

Best kicker, punter

Safety talent is very debatable around the West for all the teams; this is because the Cards don't have Rolle this year.
WR's are no less then second best.

We beat the Cards WITH Kurt Warner. He is no longer there, making his ridiculous plays where he throws a perfect pass an instant before being tackled.
Hasselbeck is a skittish quarterback now, who hears footsteps and no longer stays in the pocket like he used to, he is no better than Alex Smith now.
Bradford, OK, I'm terrified of Bradford, but I'm crossing my fingers telling myself he is a rookie with a poor O-line.

It took us a while, but this year we just flat out have BETTER players than those other teams. Period.

Then again, if our play-calling doesn't get out of "preseason mode", we are in serious trouble. I am simply going to assume that all the offensive play calling has been made for the purpose of evaluation; because if not, this prediction might not be that far off the mark. Its cliche, but this season, our biggest threat really IS ourselves.

what I don't understand about that statement is.....Alex's strides last year is what brought us to a level of divisional mediocrity....so wouldn't another big stride for Alex simply elevate the Niners further.

Its just a non sensical conclusion, that our best case scenario is that our QB continues to improve but the whole team is going to regress for no apparent reason.

I actually think Alex looked good last week so if he improves he would, based on last years games, have us at 10 Wins.

Yeah I think the folks at ESPN look at the players bodies.. They had some pics of TO and VD in their underware... It's a shame they are more into porn now than sports.

This reminds me of the touts on TV for horse racing, they give you their picks and they always finish off the board-every time. The people on this website have a much better take on the the situation with the 49ers and it shapes up as a great year, and that you can bet on.

I think what they are saying is that Smith steps up and we take advantage of the rest of the divisions mediocrity. Not us being mediocre, which we were last year record wise.
