If this doesn't get you fired up for the upcoming season -- nothing will.
My thanks to BigRon for posting this up on Facebook. For posters like IWAS -- it will brings tears to your eyes.
And for those younger fans who wonder why we chronically complain about our current QB -- it's because we've seen this before.

That was so sick. Amazing to watch that whole thing since I was born in 81!

Damn, look at how you could actually hit the QB back then! That was a sick defense

Thanks for sharing Bill. Notice how good the offensive line was back then, that is what we need to see from this team.

who gives a f**k... that was 20+ years ago. The team has changed and the league has changed. complain all you want about the current quarterback play but you will have to lower your standards if you ever wish to be happy about it. Players like Young and Montana dont come around often.

That was just a magic year -- on so many levels.
I nearly cried when I saw Paul Hofer in those highlights.

That clip of Dean throwing Munoz on his ass was awesome.

Actually the QB play in SF over most of the last decade has been sub-par compared to any NFL standard, let alone the franchise standard. There are a few spoiled fans that demand nothing less than a HOF'er at just about every position and that's effing ridiculous. But to many of us "old-timers" the sub-standard QB play has looked all that much worse because of what we grew-up with.
But at this point I'll be satisfied with slightly above average QB play so long as we win games.
The 1981 team is still the closest to my heart just because it was so damn surprising and new.

thats all we need IMO... if we could get Jeff Garcia production that would be fantastic... we dont need a HOF QB and I wouldnt expect one either.
look at the bears... all that those poor motherf**kers have to show is McMahon

If you look at Montana's stats for 81, you see how much the game has changed. If he were playing today and only threw 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, the same jackasses calling for smith's head would be dogging Joe.

Hopefully not if we finished 13-3 with a 1st round bye

We also had Tittle, Brodie and Garcia even though they are second rate compared to Montana and Young they are world's better than the garbage we have had in the last 6 years. F**k lowering standards, how about getting a QB that is considered at least above average, that isn't a lot to ask.

Once in a great while there are teams that have magic, the 69 Mets, 69 Jets, 75 Golden State Warriors, come to my mind. Add to that list the 81 49er's. Bill Walsh called it Camelot. Anytime I need a lift I turn on the 81 video of America's Game and just enjoy. Who knows maybe there will be magic this year for the 2010 49ers.
