He better be be practicing with that dam air cast. He needs every rep if hes going to touch the field on D this year.

Bowman is better anyway. McKillop is a good lunchpail, depth guy who probably wouldn't be a starter any time soon. He was a tackling machine in college, but I suspected he would need a few years to adjust to NFL speed.

I disagree unless you people are being sarcastic. McKillop was actually running with the 1st teamers while Spikes was tired.
Eh, I don't think McKillop impressed last year. That's why we drafted Bowman.
Bowman was drafted because we had no depth behind willis... McKillop was drafted to take the reigns at TED once Spikes moves on. And judging by the fact that he was running with the one's in Takeo's absence while Bowman backed up Willy, it looks like everything was going to plan.
I dont understand why people assume someone is basically a bust if they dont start in year 1...
I'm pretty sure Bowman was drafted to take over for Spikes. I remember reading from Maiocco that the coaching staff was not so impressed with McKillop.
"Q: How do the Niners feel about McKillop and Wilhelm? Do they view that position as a need, or are they confident in them? @mjl84
MM: The 49ers do not consider Scott McKillop a can't-miss future starter for the 49ers. But at the spot they got him in the draft, they adored him for being able to - at the very least - be a solid backup for a long time and be a demon on special teams. That's why I believe if a unique player, such as McClain were at the top of their list of best-available players, they would not hesitate to grab him. Wilhelm did what was asked of him after he replaced Jeff Ulbrich on the roster, but he is certainly guaranteed no spot for next season."

Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be any more than a knee strain, but it's nice to see Bowman is going to get some extra reps.

While I do value Maiocco's input, it is still just another opinion from someone on the outside looking in. I think more stock should be put in the depth chart that had McKillop playing TED and Bowman slotted at MIKE.
Another aspect that should be considered is their respective frames. McKillop is much thicker making him more suitable for taking on and shedding lead blockers, while Bowman is a bit more slight but with very good speed enabling him to track down ball carriers from sideline to sideline ala P-Willy.
