I am so tired of these incompetent sports writers - and I use the term extremely loosely in this case.
Joe Kukura wrote a column about Aubrayo Franklin not having arrived in camp yet. Everything he wrote is correct. However, he entitled the article, "Franklin now officially a holdout", which is NOT TRUE!
Franklin is not under contract so he cannot possibly be a holdout.
Everyone knows that, which means Kukura is either showing his ignorance or manipulating his readers with false titles to his articles.
Fire the bum!

Kukra is wrong! Franklin NOT a holdout!

When a drafted rookie doesn't show up for camp because of a contract dispute he is considered a holdout. If, the rookie, who is also not under contract is considered a holdout, why wouldn't Franklin be considered a holdout?

Franklin is not considered a holdout because he is not under contract to any team.
A draftee, while not under contract, is selected by a specific team, so even though a draftee is technically not a holdout for not signing a contract, he is treated as one. Not so with veterans.
As a matter of fact, Kukura is the only "sports writer" (again, I use the term loosely) to call Franklin's not showing up a "holdout".

No personal agenda here. However, I am a broadcast journalist and so I recognize chintzy tactics by others. It p*sses me off that he would use such a petty tactic to make people think that Franklin is holding out... in order to get people to read his story.

I wonder when he will be back it's already too late to negotiate a new contact and he will be making more with the tender than he had all his seasons combined

Semantics
He is keeping himself away from the team during training camp because of contract situation. It's the exact same thing except that he's not a rookie and is a veteran. IMO getting irritated or questioning a writers abilities over it is silly.

would you agree that the reason Franklin isn't here is the same reason that others are holding out?

And technically he is a holdout...We have exclusive rights to him now...He either signs the tender or sits out and doesn't play football all season for anyone.

He is a Hold Out.... Get your head out of your arse. He is the same as a draft pick not signing. The Niners have the rightss to him, no other NFL team can sign him. Either he plays for the niners in 10 or he does not play at all.

No I would not. Franklin cannot do anything but accept a 7m dollar contract for one year. He cannot get an extended contract now, so his reasons for staying away cannot be contractual.
Franklin simply doesn't want to take a chance on being injured. I expect he will join the team by the end of the second preseason game.
