He would be a better #2 WR than Josh Morgan, a better #3 than Hill or Ginn

You honestly have yourself convince that Team Obliterator will want to play #2 and not be a whiny little drama queen about it. The guy is a washed up prima donna that just isn't worth the trouble, the fact that no team has signed him yet just proves it.

Say what you want..........numbers dont lie.

Team Obliterator.....how about Touchdown Owner

Team - games played - catches - yards - TDs

2009 Buffalo Bills 16 55 829 5 (shipwrecked on the worst passing team in NFL)

2008 Dallas Cowboys 16 69 1,052 10 (that's a lot of TDs!)

2007 Dallas Cowboys 15 81 1,355 15 (hello, Pro Bowl!)

2006 Dallas Cowboys 16 85 1,180 13 (Dallas loves them some TO!)

2005 Philadelphia Eagles 7 47 763 6 (played in playoffs despite broken ankle)

2004 Philadelphia Eagles 14 77 1,200 14 (Philly loves them some TO!)

2003 San Francisco 49ers 15 80 1,102 9

2002 San Francisco 49ers 14 100 1,300 13

COMPARE WITH Josh Morgan's 52 catches for 527 and 3 TDs last year.

Let's allow Coach Sing to do his job and get the most out of his players. TO as our #2 could easily reach 55-65 catches, 800-900 yards and 5-8 TDs. Not sure Morgan or any other current WR minus Crabtree is capable of those numbers.

TO will not ever be happy unless he is in the spotlight, he would be nothing but trouble and a distraction. Don't you think that if he were worth the trouble Jerry Jones would've kept paying his lame ass? The guy is a 36 year old child that has lost a step and while his physical skills might let him play #2, I doubt his ego will. We do not need this kind of distraction on this team.

Exactly! Let's bring in TO so that our breakout star receiver has three excellent role models in Deon Sanders, MC Hammer, and TO... how can that blow up in our faces?

Yeah he's less of a distraction now then he used to be but he was never a team guy and Sing wont tolerate players who are all about being who they be... See Dre Bly.

........... Really?!?, ......... something is missing from a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2002? Astute observations from, I can only assume, a longtime 49er fan. If you hold your head down as a Niner fan, ever, my response is: find a team that has no pride, history, or heart.

We, SAN FRANCISCO FORTY NINERS, were the first to "get one for the thumb"!! - We are the franchise that is 5-0 (UN-DEFEATED) in superbowls! - We have kinship to the best QB of all time, the best WR of all time, the best Safety of all time, the best offensive mind of all time.

We are on the right track. True, we are not going to win the superbowl this year. We will win the division and build upon that so that over the next 2-5 years we are in a position that will give us an opportunity to win the the Superbowl again!

Enough about Smith.... I dont want to turn this into one of those threads. I do think we could have upgraded at the center position. Is the old center from the titans last year still availible, good for veteran depth if nothing else. Hell we know he can run block(see chris Johnson stats)

I really like Heitmann at C. Imo he's gonna be that glue guy, not only because he's the center and makes the line calls but because he's the most experienced 9er and is the unquestioned leader up front. I think those traits are going to be key in bringing this line together quickly. Imo, letting go of that kind of leadership would be a huge set back, particularly to the interior lineman where Heitmann has experience at playing G.

But depth wise it would be a great move you're right. I don't think any of our guys are going to get enough top team reps to ever be able to come into a game and replace Heitmann. We'll only get that from a guy who's done it already. Trick is finding one to sit on the bench and be a teacher.

No offense and I'm not trying to rehash the Heitmann issue. But isn't this EXACTLY why Ray and Solari were brought in? Solari being a McKittrick disciple and Ray having PLAYED every position on the Line? You want your leader who can coach and lend advice from the Bench? Isn't that what Ray will be doing? Personally I just want Heitmann to shut up and do his job. Let the coaches coach and Ray lend game time feedback. I want Heitmann to concentrate on his job, make better calls and protect the middle. He may be able to plant me like a 5'10" railroad spike, but if I see Smith or ANY of our QBs' get rocked like Rocky Bernard rocked Smith and completely untouched, he's the first guy I'm picking bones with. No excuse for that from a guy that is considered one of the best Scheme callers in the game. I disagree with that, but as I said I'm not here to rehash.

I just want our QB to have the same 3-4 seconds that the rest of the league seems to enjoy. Is that too much to ask?

Ya I hear where you're coming from on that 1. But at some point during a game, the young fellers are gonna have questions and I would hope Heitmann's the guy they're looking to for answers. If you can't trust the man in the middle to handle all of his responsibilities then he's not worth keeping.

I would hope the new line coaches will designate a guy as their on field coach and that has to be Heitmann on this crew. I think he can handle his role on this team. He's played in the league for a while now and has seen some good line play and seen even more bad line play. By now he should know within a half second of snapping the ball whether his Guards are doing the right thing and where he needs to slide. Heitmann's the one I'm looking at to help this group during game time. This groups so young the coaching can't stop at the sideline. They're gonna need someone to beat the messages into their heads constantly for the 1st little while and hopefully, it IS just a little while.

I was just agreeing with the previous poster that having a veteran backup would be an asset as I don't trust anybody that we have, to come into a game and do a good job with the line we have this year. Despite my complete faith in the new coaching staff, I think we come up short on leadership up front and if Heitmann were to go down I think we'd be in a bad spot. Maybe Baas if he doesn't win a spot a G this year but we definitely lose something there and I've never seen Sims play C but I think that guy plays football like how old people f**k. Dude can't play T and he can barely play G but I suppose the knowledge is still there (although I don't know what kind of knowledge you would have gained playing for the Raiders) ???

But the hard part is finding a good veteran C who's willing to sit on the bench and answer dumb questions from the young guys. So I guess the back half of what I wrote in both of my posts was completely pointless. I just really don't have anything better to do.

I don't know about your take but Sims sure held down the LT position admirably when he was moved over after Staley went down. I think that a lot of players are simply played out of their natural position based on a team's needs. We needed a RT due to Staley owning the LT position. So Sims was a back up there. It made me wonder how many players are victims of this. I mean I'm pretty sure that 3 of our guys last year were playing out of position besides Sims. Rachal, Baas and Heitmann.

YES I say Heitmann. We ALL know that he was supposed to be short term answer at Center. He's a Guard and a good one at that. When Newberry went down Heitmann slid over and this team has not even really looked for his replacement. Baas was SUPPOSED to be that guy. And Rachal imho his footwork is suited for LG. All this got me wondering if our resident Photoshop Posterboy shouldn't have been on the Left Side instead of the Right. Cause when he go manhandled the opening move would be a shove to the Left Shoulder Pad which put him off balance. This indicates a Right balance stance.

So say I come at you and your natural balance is on your Right. If I give you a sharp shot to the left shoulder your body will naturally move to the right. It's almost involuntary.

I'm not saying Harris would have made a great LT. Cause one thing that is needed with a Right handed QB is a tenacious LT who faces the premier Pass Rush specialists in the game. Kwame was more of a Run Blocker than a Pass Blocker. Part of that could be due to being victimized out of position. But some of that could be due to attitude. Look at how Sims approached the LT position if you need a frame of reference. I believe that I even mentioned Sims for his outstanding play at the LT after his first game and continued to mention his play after that on more than one occasion.

~Ceadder

Ya you got me there. Sims held down the fort when Staley went down. I agree that he probably has been victimized by being asked to play out of position and my opinion was formulated on seeing him lose his job on the right side. What can I say, I expected the vet to take over and he looked bad. I think my misconception is probably that it's just plain easier to play the right side than the left. May have some truth to it but it's understandable that many guys have trouble coordinating their bodies as well as they would if they were playing the spot that they've always played.

As far as Kwame went lol! I hated on this man for years and I refuse to believe he would of been able to handle the back side but I will say that his lack of whatever was emphasized by our entire line's lack of whatever. I always thought Kwame let guys get up on em with too much speed and he just didn't play aggressively when pass blocking. You let anyone deliver the 1st blow or take 3 or more strides before you engage and your not giving yourself a very good chance, especially if you're playing the wrong side. More than anything I think he just wasn't a mean guy... Just didn't have it in em.

I can't say Harris didn't "Have it in him", especially since he was a pretty good Run blocker. He liked to pound guys. Probably cause he was fed up with them doing the same to him in Pass protection. I can see why he'd want to exact some measure of revenge in the Run game anyway.

His false starts can also be directly attributed to him trying to get up with better timing. I always thought and still do to some extent that the Refs unfairly looked in his direction. Like they were intentionally looking for a reason to call us for something. I dunno maybe Kwame cornholed a family member and left her sobbing by the side of the road or something. It was blatant the way they went about it.

I think what's missing is the team being in sync on offense. The improved line is the biggest step and will help on so many levels. So will Smith going beyond learning the playbook to leading the team. It will probably take the first 3 or 4 games to get rolling. The team should be 5-3 at the bye and finish 10 and 6--and in the playoffs!
Is it really that hard to believe we repeat our divisional record last year (5-1) and then split the rest of the games especially when we play the AFC west (5-5) for a 10-6 record and playoffs?

We are the only team in our division to take a step forward, and we get to play the broncos, chiefs, raiders, panthers, and buccaneers. Honestly, that should be an 11-0 record right there if we are as talented as we and everyone else thinks. Now the team just has to prove it.... and with the amount of "contract years" we have on this roster I think they just might
Im revisiting this thread because I'm looking at our Offensive backfeild and I'm worried...First Gore is a beast providing he can stay healthy.. Coffee and Robinson are fourth rate at best and our full back is not a blue chipper either.. We all hope for the best for Alex but we all know we need a QB and Davis and Carr is not scaring anybody either. The report has been Alex is having a so-so camp after returning to the same system (which many of us gave him as a crutch). We are an injury to Gore away from becoming gastly in the backfield. I hope Smith starts lighting it up, but as of now it seems like something is missing

The last 10 Superbowl winning quarterbacks:

Drew Brees
Ben Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Peyton Manning
Ben Roethlisberger
Tom Brady
Tom Brady
Brad Johnson
Tom Brady
Trent Dilfer

Besides Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson.......who played for teams that boasted some of the best defenses of all-time........the rest of that QB class is unbelievable. All of them can be classified as "greats", and Im sure any team would be willing to trade for Eli if they had the chance.

The "sexy" thing we're missing is a quarterback. The only thing that Alex has riding for him is expectations. Expectations from a bunch of fans that fantacize about Joe Montana and Steve Young. Fans that have seen Alex flop for the past 6 years, yet believe that he can be great based on a handful of games from 2009.

Lets face facts, folks. Unless our defense can play like Baltimore's (2000) or TB's (2002), there is NO WAY that Alex Smith becomes an instant all-pro and takes us to the promised land. And I laugh at all the half-assed fans here that think he can make the probowl this year. Yeah right...............
