I can tell by the votes how young this forum must be... if Steve Young is above Joe Montana. Everyone must not have seen Joe play. Ask almost all the 49er fans around at that time. It was Joe then for awhile we kind of hated Steve. He was a run first QB and always seemed to take off too soon instead of giving it that half sec. that Joe would. Don't get me wrong by the end of his career he became one of the greatest QB's in the league i think but at first... it was rocky.

I agree 100% with Rider here. Joe was the man, but Steve will always be my favorite and the QB that I most enjoyed watching play. No stats, logic or argument can change that because it is subjective.
It's insulting to me that someone says that Steve was more exciting to watch than Steve and that essentially Joe's comebacks weren't all that many.
And I didn't insult the man. I just stated a fact. Either the guy was TOO YOUNG(nothing wrong with that) or wasn't paying attention.
Where was the insult?
I wouldn't have had problem one if he had said that Steve is his favorite and left it at that. Instead he said what he said and I stand by my statement.
If you think that Joe was not that exciting then you weren't watching. Every year he played for this team he did at least 5 exciting things. I won't list them all but two as there are too many to list.
One of the first exciting things was the Catch. The man was for all intents and purpose a goner with NO protection in front of him but he kept dropping back enough to keep the play alive and then threw the ball the rest is history.
The final one I'll bring up was his Super Bowl win over the Broncos. Throwing more TD passes in the big game than any before him. Only Steve bested him in that record.
In between and even after he left this team the man had comebacks. And his "coolness" was way more exciting than any frenetic pace that Steve put on the field imho. I respect Steve and will always be glad that he played for this team. But until he won his Super Bowl he could all but get you to rip your own hair out by the roots. That is not exciting that's exasperating.
He did indeed have exciting moments though. I'm not disputing that. Only that no way he had more exciting moments than Joe. If that's insulting then I thing that the Bay Area has gotten too soft since I moved away.

What?
2 questions both could be answered relatively quickly by the first one.
1st How old are you?
2nd Where the truck were you from '81-'91?
I know of only one big game that Joe had where the game was so out of reach for the other team that everyone could have gone home by Halftime the Opposing team was getting its ass handed to them so bad.
Joe had enough comebacks that a certain Commentator said after their loss to us that he just knew that there was too much time left on the Clock and that they scored too fast on us.
Please just stop. You don't even know what Offenses QBs' play. Steve was a GREAT Football player. Joe was the greatest. If you can't tell the difference then either you weren't born yet or you weren't paying attention.
Just my two cents for WiW.

Sooner or later you need to figure out your opinion isn't the bottom line. Every single time you post, you convey your OPINION as FACT. Get over yourself for once.
To answer your questions, I'm in my mid-30s and I was watching Joe Montana from 81'-91'. I hate when you people think your opinion is final and anyone with a differing opinion has to have something wrong with them -in this case you assume I've never seen Montana play because I said Young was more exciting to watch outside of a 2 minute drill, so clearly you think I've never seen Montana play. Get off the pedestal you've undeservingly placed youself on.
Don't try to sit there and act like Montana was pulling off a 4th quarter comeback with 2 minutes left every damn week. It didn't happen as often as people like you want to think. That is not an opinion, that is a fact. Montana was great and is probably the greatest of all time, but TO ME, Young was more exciting to watch. If you don't like that, too damn bad.
By the way, about me not knowing which offenses QBs play under.. You might want to go read that thread again. You don't seem to understand that every team's version of an offense (no matter which offense) is DIFFERENT and that was my point. Your level of comprehension is very low for someone who tries to seem like the smartest person to ever post on a forum. Ever. Of all time.
It was not your choice of Player. It was what you said to DEFINE your decision that got me to respond. I've only NOW posted 3 responses to Posters in this thread. There have been MANY differing choices. If you're butt hurt over my post I apologize, but it's my opinion that you have no clue what you're talking about when you say what you did and I'm OBVIOUSLY not the only person to think so.
And lets get one thing straight. My OPINION is what matters here because I gave commentary on your REASON not your CHOICE. You could have said Steve Bono and I wouldn't have had a problem with it. Unless you said he was more exciting than Joe. That's where I draw the line.

I understood the point of the Poll. If you can show me where I take umbrage with other Steve fans, please by all means show me. I'm willing to publicly retract my opinion. I chose Bill cause w/o Bill we go nowhere. But please don't insult my intelligence by telling me what the aim of the Poll was. I'm diehard not stupid. lol
Btw, not mad. Just defending my stance. That's what happens when someone DEBATES a topic.
