I forgot, sorry, Alex Smith will suddenly get better over the offseason and will have corrected all his probems by throwing the ball around in OTAs, and I don't want Nate to start (yet) honestly it's foolish to believe that our rebuilding is over, Nate needs to learn (who will teach him idk). I honestly don't know what I would do if the decision were mine, but eventually dump Alex and train Davis.
yes, thats exactly what will happen
I can see it now............. all the Smith doubters such as myself being force-fed crow in inappropriate amounts, as we all celebrate Alex Smith success, Oh wait, I left the gas on in the stove again.

We need more games out of Alex like he played against Jacksonville.
And we need less games out of Alex like he played against Tennessee.
To make a short story even shorter: Alex, just don't screw up, and let the rest of the team win.
I do realize I am being mean, just that Alex has frustrated me in a lot of games
and has been the source of anger for me.
Its funny how you guys are so sure that Alex will never amount to anything. i really have no clue and neither do you. he looked awful at times and he has looked really good at others.
I do know that he has improved his game so far every year he has played and this is really only his fourth season. given all the issues he has had thrown at him, I think he actual has done allright, not good, not terrible. If he picks up his consistency, gets a little time to throw and becomes more comfortable in less space, this team can win. There is enough talent on this team that it can make a mediocre QB pretty damn good. Same way Randy Moss made Culpepper look good, even though he wasn't.
This will be the year that we will finally know what we have. If he ends of sucking, we will probably have a pretty decent backup.
I assure you there is nothing funny about our current QB situation, you and I have both seen how that underachiever performs, some people just don't like the fact that Smith is at the helm of a team that can go deep into the playoffs were it not for him, any decent QB can have difficulties, however, Alex makes a habbit of sucking and underachieving, he is "susceptible" to fail if the circumstances are not perfect, QB always have problems, they deal with it and find a way to win, Alex folds and waits for people to fix things for him.
There were several losses last year that you can't fault Smith for.
The games Hill started?
If I remember correctly, Smith played very well up in Seattle but the Niners still lost.
Top tier QBs in this league wipe their butts with a good performance for Smith (ie: 0-1int 1-2td 50% comp. 190 yards.) I don't hate Smith but I've never seen lasting glimmer of hope in his play.
I use to think and make remarks the same way as you do, but after watching Smith in Houston, Indy and Seattle, I'm pretty excited to see what he can do this year. Sure he was inconsistent as well this year, but you have to at least give the guy some slack after a year and a half away from playing let alone taking a snap of football.
that must have been hard for you to admit. j/k

No not the Nate Davis part, Im talking about Alex Smith sucks part.
Yep, agree totally. I do believe Nate is better than most think. He may be one of those game day guys, who suck in practice. Look..if Alex can finally do it, great. However, I don't have a lot of faith in him and if he stinks it up NO MORE EXCUSES!!! Period!

Nope just took years of understanding, rehashing and rethinking.
One thing I like about Smith is that hes got a good head on his shoulders, and it also looks as if his leadership is starting to come out.

Bill Walsh is famous for many insightful sayings. One of them was that when it came to evaluating a player, he wanted to see film of their ten best plays. That would tell him what kind of talent they had. It was his job and the job of the coaching staff to develop consistency in the player so that they made those kind of plays much more frequently.
Looking at last year's Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree highlights, I am also wathching Alex's highlights, as he, for the most part, was throwing to them.
Logic suggests that Alex should perform much better this year because he has had time to become much more familiar with the playbook and the receivers. I will trust in logic carrying the day.

Nate Davis is dumb as nails.
I remember MROB on his internet show asked him a question, and Nate's answer was so dumb, MROB hit him on the head and repeated the question.

Only one person can disprove a single word of what he says.... Go show us Alex! Or it might just be Davis's team sooner than later!

I hope Davis pans out because he has a good skill set physically, but the QB position requires more than just that, and that more is just what he is struggling with now. Any fool with a strong arm can thro0w the ball 50 yards, it takes brains to be a QB.
You don't know what you're talking about. This is football, not differential equations or multivariable calculus. Intelligence is probably the 3rd or 4th skill set required to be a good QB, behind system continuity and leadership skills. Thats Razzano's point. And all this talk about Alex Smith being so 'smart' is BS too. How is he smart? b/c he got a high Wonderlick score? Thats just another test used to make certain groups appear superior and others inferior. (Frank Gore is living proof the wonderlick means nothing---as he shows great intelligence on the field.) When has Alex Smith ever exploited an opponent with his so-called intelligence? Umm...never. His college coach called him "non-functional" until he knows things inside out. Sounds pretty average to me. As a QB Smith is no smarter than anybody else...including Davis. Lets stop all this IQ nonsense. Smith is average. This year, we will see how functional he is.
Your bolded statement is so easily dissected and ripped apart that I'll leave it for someone else to do.
But I will say that for you to say being intelligent is not one of the top two things you need to have to be a good QB is almost laughable. You might not need Calculus but you better damn well be football smart, which is it's own science. I'll leave the rest to everybody else.
What..b/c you have a lot of posts on a blog you think you can just leave things up to everybody else? Now thats laughable. Who is this guy? Look I've been a 9ers fan since 1980, and that will continue. Dissect what I said yourself (if its so easy). Others will chime in as they see fit. In general, I learned nothing from your response. Perhaps my point was above you. Let me be clear:
Without system continuity and leadership skills---it doesn't matter how intelligent you are. Seems pretty reasonable if you ask me. Now does intelligence help? Of course (See Aaron Rodgers and Ben R-berger). But its not the key to success for a QB--and 1st round status and wonderlick scores don't mean anything. Alex Smith hasn't shown me any type of "intelligence" on the field that warrants all theses accolades of him being so smart. He's average. (Not saying Davis is the smartest apple in the bunch either. But he showed more 'intelligence' on the field in a few preseason games than I have seen from Smith in all the games he's played).

I don't get the Razzano's quote about the missing on 7-yard-out. Did he actually watch the games? Smith actually was pretty decent on the long passes. His accuracy problem was on the shorter ones.

Actually it was his father who claimed the credit for drafting Montana. Dave Razzano hasn't had any claim to fame yet.

Agree completely. The niners are a good team, and continuing to keep him in there and waiting for a terrible football player to turn in to a decent player is absolutely retarded. its a huge waste of the opportunity this team has with its talent right now and the current rebuilding in the division. please get rid of the alex smith ball and chain.

Yeah, that test is pretty much as stupid as they get, I'm suprised you didn't see those numbers and realize that test does not evaluate talent on even a basic level,
drew brees, peyton manning, and steve young all less talented than smith?
I feel like the largest facepalm on the earth cannot describe that test, and the fact that you use it as evidence to prove his talent is like using stool samples
to determine talent.
Here is my interpretation of the contribution of the intelligence indicated by the Wonderlic score: modern-day QB is a demanding job. Not only a QB has to have all the physical skills, he also needs to have the intelligence to grasp the complex offensive systems AND defensive formations throw his way. If he plays under a Martz-type of system, he has to learn lots of modifications to the playbook every week, not only for his position, but also for the key players in that play. This is where Wonderlic score gives the drafting teams additional evaluation tool. A WCO team will favor highly-intelligent QB (Davis won't make that team) for example. The difference between 40 (Smith) and 35 (Rodgers) actually isn't that big. Sometimes it just means that one person was more careless than the other one. However there is a big gap between 35 and 15. The average score for QB is about 26. Is Wonderlic score the predictor of how successful a QB can be? Of course not, because just like any other skill (arm strength for example), that raw skill is just something waiting to be developed further, and molded with other skills to form the perfect package - a successful QB.

you're joking right? man, you Smith defenders have really low standards as far as quarterbacking.
