4. Nate Clements, 49ers cornerback. Clements appeared uncomfortable and off his game last season. An injury eventually landed him on injured reserve. The 49ers can stomach his $6 million salary if Clements returns to form, but the price otherwise appears quite steep.

6. Michael Lewis, 49ers safety. Three concussions last season raised serious questions about whether Lewis should continue playing and whether he can stay on the field. His salary is $4.1 million.

8. Brandon Jones, 49ers receiver. His $2.145 million salary isn't particularly burdensome, but Jones became worth far less to the 49ers once the team drafted Michael Crabtree and, to a much lesser extent, added Ted Ginn Jr.
this is more of an indictment of their salaries not play on the field
the only one in danger IMO is Jones

We have zero depth behind Clements, Brown and Spencer

and Lewis is the best SS on the roster so no cutting him.

Jones is average, and must show something in TC to stick.
I would be surprised if Jones makes the team. Lewis is the most sound safety we have so he stays (hopefully he doesn't sustain another head injury). Clements is still one of the two best corners on the team and should have a better year because he is essentially in a contract year (there's no way the Niners will pay him his inflated salary next year)
Clements should have a breakout year if its his contract year.

Not exactly, but im sure he and his agent know that the Niners wont pay him the remainder of his back-loaded salary next year. so for all intents and purposes, yes it is.
Jones was lighting it up last season on the practice field, I was anxious to see what he could do for us in the real game, then he was hurt and not heard from. Lets see what hes got for us this year.

I guess your comment is correct seeing that Jones didn't really play on the field.

Everyone talks as if Morgan is a lock for the number 2 spot, but I wouldn't totally count out Jones. Obviously we thought highly enough about the guy to give him a large contract. He looked great in camp until he got injured.

Teams give players large contracts who never contribute nearly what they should often. The contract to Jones was a desperation move by Scotty boy to try to get Smith some WR help. Scott thought he had found a diamond in the rough. Truth is, Jones didn't deserve anything neear what he got and is probably one of the most glaring indicators as to why Scott was relieved of duties.
