The 49ers and San Francisco are one in the same to everyone who cares about football (even if they don't consciously realize it) and even non-sports fans. The team needs to stay.

What would they call the NINERS if they moved to LA? The LA NINERS or how bout the CALIFORNIA NINERS???? Thats a name that would have to grow on somebody for a looooong time.. I would be heart broken if they moved. Even moving to Santa Clara is kinda depressing but thats the nature of the beast.. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS!!

Our team's not going any further south than Santa Clara...so all this banter is meaningless. LA lost their team because they didn't support it and they wouldn't build a new stadium. Thanks to the Santa Clara voters, we've cleared a major hurdle toward getting that stadium. LA doesn't deserve another team.

LA lost their teams because of who owned them. Georgia Frontiere and Al Davis.

I must admit that I am personally thrilled that they are moving 35 miles closer to my home near Santa Cruz so I can see where you are coming from.
However moving to LA? No flippen way!!! Even when I lived in So Cal I bleed red and gold and a big part of that is the Bay area vibe. LA is about as opposite as it can muster and some how still manage to be Californian. I'd loath the culture change that would be unavoidable with the team taking on the LA persona.
