Everyone loves to nit pick when it comes to Alex. The biggest thing I read last season his board was that he was "throwing too hard" and his accuracy will always be his downfall. Well you can start blaming his receivers for the dropped balls.
"And one statistic that really convinced me that Smith has turned the corner was his incredibly low rate of poor throws as scored by STATS last season. Just 10.5% of Smith's passes to open receivers were off the mark, a rate that put him in a tie for second-best in the league along with the Vikings' Brett Favre and just barely off the 10.3% pace of former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner. The Saints' Drew Brees (11.1%), Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger (12.1%) and Colts' Peyton Manning (12.8%) rounded out the league's top performers.
That's pretty good company."

You mean we aren't supposed to start brand new Alex Smith threads, just because the topic is already covered in another thread?

That's not the real reason. The goal is 500 for the Smith Bandwagon thread.

alex has no more excuses he has wr's rb's te's and a big o=line this is it get it done i want to see alex bring this team from behind and win the big games i dont care about beating seattle ariz st, louis i want to see him beat n.o. atlanta. g.b. philly hopefully he splits those games it's more than percentages he needs to learn how to control the clock and game situations not burning time outs cause they don't know what to do in certain situations, hopefully he has learned from all these errors and prove everyone why we drafted him number 1 overall i personally thinki he is going to have a great season.

How exactly do they classify an "off-target pass"? While we did have several drops last year, I think making the reciever work for it is an off-target pass, while they may consider anything "catchable" as being on target... Regardless, it was a good stat to see, and very suprising when I read it...

It doesn't matter what stats you put up, the haters will continue to hate no matter what. We just have to hope Alex plays well enough this year to shut them up.

Here's how it works:
The team wins - Smith sucks because he had bad stats. The team carried him.
The team loses - Smith sucks despite his good stats because HE lost.

These stats don't represent how Smith was at QB when the Niners were either up by 7 points or less or down by 7 points or less. I think his rating was in the high 50s. I posted it before but, if really needed, can find it and post it again.
Stats don't show everything. Watching the game gives you a better idea of performance under critical situations.
