Nolan and Sing have tried to make the team and the fans believe that we were going to make the play offs and have fallen short on their goal.
Sing has talent and depth on this team to make it a reality. Will we finally do it? Only time will tell. But the off season is a time to get our hopes high.

My hopes are high, and here is why:
- I genuinely think we are heading in the right direction from an 8-8 season. Our team had a QB change during the season... massive OL and scheme problems... lots of drops and some close losses last year.... and STILL, we went 8-8. We have since squared away the QB spot... finally kept continuity... added a new OL coach and two 1st round OL... added speed to the secondary... added kick/punt return options... and our young guys have more chemistry and experience. Add to that, the Cardinals simply must be significantly weaker with the losses of Bolden, Warner, and Dansby. So yes, I see no reason that we can not win 2-3 more games this time around and be solid playoff contenders.
- I put my faith out there for my team regardless of the disappointments that may come. To not do so for fear of being emotionally crushed is just flat-out weak + cowardly. Don't be afraid to have high hopes for your team. If they fail, they fail... but the team really does look ready to improve on 8-8, and there's no good reason not to get your hopes up.
I agree with most fans optimism.
The reasons I'm still "cautiously" optimistic are things that can not be ignored:
Very poor proven road record
Our record coming off extra rest and time to prepare for opponents
Mid-season lull despite a good start each year salvaged by a few at the end of the season; this year we have a tougher schedule to start the season
In-game crucial calls that lead to losses
The offensive philosophy: run to set up the pass (despite it being a passing league now)
Defenses inability to get off the field on 3rd downs (no more Bly)
9-7!

Every NFL team has questions...even the champion Saints. We're no exception...but, the flip side of that is this is the best Niner team in years. Not only is the player talent better, so is the coaching. We'll see a big difference in our OL...no matter when Davis and Iupati crack the starting lineup...and they both will, sooner rather than later. Solari and Brown will whip our big dudes in shape...and Raye will be able to expand his playbook accordingly. Rookies will make mistakes...that's how they learn, but they'll also make plays, and so the pain's worth it.
We have a lot of 2-3 year players ready to blossom...like Coffee, Reggie Smith, RJF, McKillop, (maybe) Boone, Nate Davis, Morgan, Crabtree, etc. Alex is really poised to have a breakout season...for him, Jimmy Raye's been good. I like that JR has spent a lot of quality time w/Alex...it'll pay off.
We have some vets who'll be playing for a lot this season...Franklin, Lawson, Baas, Clements, Vernon, to name just a few.
Put all those things together and you have a talented, motivated team ready to take the next step...and they will.

Of course man... it's the offseason, and we are a talented team. Although, I think people are getting too excited about the rookie O linemen. I think they'll both be good, but it's a lot to ask for them to have a major positive impact in their rookie years... Especially Davis coming in at the tackle position.

Yeah, Nolan was decent at buying the groceries, but sucked at preparing the stew, and stubborn at letting go some of the groceries sooner when he knew they tainted the meal!

We have the personnel to get there this year, finally. It should be tough with Whisenhunt and Carrol in the same division. Those are two very good coaches and Carrol used to coach for us as our defensive coordinator during our heyday. He has come a long way and he has possibly learned from his previous errors. If Seattle defeats us handily at any one of our meetings, that would be an immediate red flag. With the addition of Carrol, his solid draft class, and his previous experience, this division just became a whole lot tougher. Singletary should be aware that beating these other teams will require more than toughness and grit, it will require the better gameplan, a diverse attack and flawless execution in traditional '9er fashion.
You have to do more than hit people in the mouth. As Bill Walsh would say, you have to beat them to the punch.
