Per Maiocco:Niners and Vernon are working on an extension

I don't think we should think about extending him just yet. He has been over payed as a TE for his first 3 years. Let him do this for another year and maybe we may continue paying him like a problowler instead of giving him a raise.
Make it happen!!
That would be so sweet!!! If they can get this done it would be a HUGE statement that this team is serious about winning and keeping thier key players on both sides of the ball. Make it happen!!!!

Umm no, unless it's for like 3 mil a year

aint happening, he wont take 3m a yr, he wants 7M and quite frankly he isnt worth it.

IMO Just get Vernon done.

and then in 2011 offseason, only worry about getting Goldson to reason and if alex and franklin oplay good, they get extended, And then little FA's like Sims, Wilhelm, James, Baas, Wragge, all of which are replacible.

Agreed with everything you said. Goldson was only good for a few games last season. He's replacable.
eh, Goldson has potential but last season he seemed confused between the role of FS and SS. He isn't big enough to last a season at SS so his challenge this season will be to see if he can be content being a very good FS. If he shows that by mid-season, extend him. If he has another season like last year, then the 49ers may let him test his market value. He definitely has not shown himself to be worth top 10 FS money.

davis likely wont do an extension during the year, meaning if he has a good year and hits the open market, his price will be higher than it is right now, teams will compete aginast each other to drive the price up and we arent a team that will win a bidding war, its either pay the man now, or play against him in 2011 and beyond

Give Goldson a nice bump in salary, but $7M per? He's got to be out of his mind. 4 years, $16M is more reasonable.

They should let him play out his contract. I would like to see another productive season before paying him.

Personally, he's not that hard to play against. Just cover the middle of the field. His lack of quickness takes away his over all speed on the short routes or turnaround routes. He's not a good route runner, so you can have a 4.7 speed guy cover him underneath as long as the FS is aware over the top.

once again if he plays well, we wont be able to afford him, its either do it now, or enjoy his last season in niners colours
Why? I like him better without dreads.

100% agree, but if we can get him on the cheap this year after a couple of good games that would be ideal also.

personally? were u out there covering him? i get most of his td's came on the same pattern, but the niners can play off that, either have him break his route off, or let 2 or 3 ppl be aware of the seam pass and throw it to someone else, he creates match up problems

With another good year, Goldson will get at least 5 mil a year.
