But they are not starting on the same side. That's all that counts.

True, plus I am less worried about Iupati than Davis at RT. But I suppose anyone is better than Snyder at RT...

With Staley and Simms, no guarantee we will start Davis from day 1.

I'd still like it better, if we had addressed the O-line better last year. If we had done it the way I thought we should, we'd be looking at:
LT- Joe Staley (6-5 / 315)
LG- Mike Iupati (6-5 / 331)
C- Eric Heitmann (6-3 / 312)
RG- Duke Robinson (6-5 / 330)
RT- Phil Loadholt (6-8 / 343)
Average Height / weight = 6-5 / 326!
With Herm Johnson (6-7 / 382) as a back up at G and possibly RT, and Tony Fiametta (6-0 / 242) at FB. This could have been one of the most dominant rushing offenses of all-time! With Rathman coaching, Fiametta could have been a Pro Bowl FB for us for years to come! I think not drafting him was one of the biggest misses we've had in years.

Agreed. That is one nice thing... Simms, Snyder, Bass and even Wragge are all still in the mix. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE OLINE COULD BE WORSE THAN LAST YEAR. If both Rookies crack the starting line up that should be because they are playing better than vets they were brought into replace. Iupati and Davis should definately stir things up... and help improve the OLINE play whether its by their play or them pushing someone else to step up.

I think Iupati will lock up that starting LG position but I am still questionable about A. Davis starting at RT. He may start a few games into the season, but I'm not sure how confident Singletary and the rest of the coaches will be of two rookie linemen starting.
If Iupati starts at LG, at least he'll be next to Staley and Heitman. Both those guys can help him out tremendously as far as signals and blocking assignments. A. Davis will be out there by himself on the right side, with Mr. Chilo as his only neighbor.
Nonetheless, hope we have a great season.

He has to start otherwise its a mistake drafting him so high and trading up for him.

Not sure why this matters. Our line was huge last year and sucked. Look at the two guys you replaced.
Bass 6-4 330 - 1 inch one pound less than Iupoti.
Snyder 6-6 325 - 1 inch 2 pounds heavier.

I don't care as long as they are more athletic than what we had and more aggressive.
