Nothing +1
Gore is making good money and for 2 more years. At the end of his contract, he will be 28 years old. He will probably be really good for another 3, maybe 4 years... luckily for us, during the start of our window for Super Bowl wins. After 2011, if he's still getting it done, then we cross that bridge when we get there. Gore loves being a 49er and we have and will continue to do right by him. For now... this is not a concern.

So the zoners on here that think we should let Gore walk or test the free agent market are f**ken idiots.
Gore has beent he only one to put up consistent numbers on a s**tty team. not to mention 2 probowls in 4 years and at least a 1,000 yards each year.
Re-sign Gore to a 3 year extension with a club option at the end of the contract.
Gore is not injury prone. Look at the other RB's they all miss a game or two gore missed two last year and still had a 1,000.

Trippin'! He may not have had the most yards of his career last year but I think it was his strongest year. I don't see any decline at all.
He had the 2nd best rushing yards total of his career even though he missed 3 (2+ all but one carry in the Vikings game) games an he was rushing behind a god-awful offensive line.
He also had the 2nd best YPC of his career in a season where defenders were in the backfield before Frank even got the exchange on an inordinate amount of plays.
2nd best yards per carry (to 2006).
Fumbles and fumbles lost were lower.
By far his best year for TDs at 13 (10 rushing, 3 receiving).
All of that behind THAT O-Line and half of the carries out of the shotgun? Are you serious??? I didn't see the guy on the decline yet. Last year was his best year IMO. His decline might be right around the corner but I can't see how anyone could say they have already seen it happening.

Two years for a running back are like two dog years. I'd wait.

MD I haven't seen you touch on the Lawson situation, any thoughts on the matter?

It's part of being a football player. You don't see many starting running backs with 16 games played year after year. Every one of them puts up seasons with 13, 14, 15 games played a couple of times throughout their career if they play into their late 20's, which means every starting RB is injury prone I guess. The thing about Gore is he runs HARD and has still played in more than 90% of the games he's been available to play in. I cant see how a starter that has played in more than 9 of 10 career games over 5 seasons is "injury prone".

And we have to remember that Frank is running on two surgically repaired ACL's, so he might wear down sooner than we all think.

It's been 6 years since those surgeries. I don't think there is an issue at this point. Something could be said that the surgeries may even extend his career...

I say lets see how things play out. After 2011 a short term extension is probably the most realistic scenario. I think Gore will have a big time say in if he gets a long term extension. If he doesnt open up to sharing more of the load his body may not last and signs of wear and tear would prevent him from getting another deal with San Fran. If he is still playing well in 2011 I think its obvious you keep him. IMO Gore is and should be a lifetime 49er. It would hurt to see him elsewhere. Its amazing what Thomas Jones has done late in his career. Cross fingers and hope Gore can do the same.

I agree, but those knees have been through alot already. I think he'll be effective until he hit's 30. Like all the other Rb's that hit that age, his probuction should start going down.

Let him play out the next two seasons and if he looks good extend him for a year, but that's it. RB's lose their value once they hit 30. We got Dixon now and he should fit in nicely as our feature back.
Dixon the savior, here we go.

Of course. But he's only 26 today. That is a long way off in football years. I'm of the opinion, based on what we've seen so far in his career, that he's no worse for the ACL surgeries at Miami and might even be better for them than if he never had the injuries.

Trade it along with him after this season why we can still get something back. I see this as the last opportunity to get anything close to "real value" for him. He's at the peak now.
His numbers can be replaced. I understand his likability and locker room presence may not be easily replaced. But his production can be replaced.
