He will be cut before regular season begins. Jones was worthless last year. Waste of a roster space.

Im no cap specialist, but Its so early in that big contract, that it may be too expensive to cut him this year, may as well keep him and see if he can contribute since we would be paying him anyway

bingo

there is no salary cap

you still have to pay him his guaranteed money.

It's true. Especially since we didn't draft a WR with a top pick.

Jones is a very good blocking WR, which is a skill we seem to covet from our WR's. For that reason alone, he'll start over both Hill and Zeigler.

When there was a salary cap and you cut a player there was a “hit” which was the remaining amount of the signing bonus that had not been counted yet. Now, since there is no salary cap, I think that when you gut a player there is no penalty & no cost.
It would cost the team the same amount if they cut him today as it would if they cut him the last day of training camp. so why would you want to cut him now? if someone pulles a Hammy they will need him.

He will be either our 2nd best or 3rd best receiver. Probably the former. We may have a whole bundle of receivers but we have very little proven talent at this position.

And what purpose would be served, as others have said. Just not going to happen.

We haven't had the benefit of seeing him at practices. We kick and scream when we've seen a dude make one great play in the pre-season and then get cut. They've seen the guy's talent and potential at all the practices before his injury, so they aren't ready to just let him walk away, especially when his pockets are full of unearned contract money.

Because there is no reason to cut him.

There is no cap this year (probably). But there will most likely still be one when there is a new CBA in place. And I highly doubt that will wipe out the current contracts. You have to assume dead money that would have counted against those years caps will still be counted against the new cap, whatever that is.

Of course this is a general statement. I don't know or want to look up how Jones' contract/guaranteed $$$ is structured (there are three more years after the uncapped year), it may very well be that they could cut him and make it so there would be no cap hit in future years (if there is a cap).

WHY DON'T WE CUT JASON HILL? What has he done? Okay so give the guy a break. s**t he was the only wr is was hearing about last summer, he has potential he just got hurt. give him a chance
