Like this one with a few changes. I think Wallace gone, Boone in. Baas can play center/guard and Snyder can play guard/tackle.

Curtis Taylor to the PS and resign Dre Bly. Hodge off PS

McKillop on PS, Vann on CB/PR. Another situation is possibly cutting Evans/Balmer and keeping McKillop & Vann on the roster. Have to see how Vann does in the Pre Season before I give him a roster spot though. Vann will be on the PS if not on the roster

You expect an undrafted FA running back to step in and become the team's starting full back?...

Describing Blount as an FA misses that he was a top to middle pick before his suspension last season. I'd like the Niners get more out of their fullbacks than they can out of Norris.

Unless Boone can prove to be more than just a RT I think he'll have a tough time making the 53 man roster.

This looks pretty close as Geek has only 9 OL. We will not keep 10 as many have on here. Since Wragge can play G and C and Baas can play G and C and Snyder can play T and G Sims backs up at T also. Wallace is done and Boone is PS. I only question if Vann will make the cut and I still think we will sign a vet. Cb

Very well thought out list GEEK

I debated about Vann as well. Personally, I would prefer Bly over Vann at that spot. But it's a bit worrisome that we'd only have one legit KR on our team that has struggled at PRs.

At the same time, if the 49ers want Mays to see action immediately, then Reggie Smith becomes a CB/FS role player. With Paymah on the roster as the "speedy" guy, we may have our bases covered which allows Vann to obtain a roster spot (or Williams).

I could see the 49ers sticking to 6 DL if Balmer proves to be healthy throughout training camp.

But thanks for the kind words!

Take off Briggs, add in Bly and keep Vann as a returner.

Possible. I think the 49ers would elect to keep an extra OLB on the active roster. We could elect to keep Wilhem over Briggs as well to make sure we have experience behind Spikes.

really nice roster Geek. seems logical.

It will be interesting to see what they do with MLewis. They might decide that Mays growing pains are worth suffering if they can get away with not having to pay MLewis' contract.

I also think its possible that they keep Williams over both Jones and Vann to be the backup KR and the PR and the 5th WR, which would leave another spot open...Vann is going to have to grab the PR job by the throat to make the team as a specialist.

There's going to be some tough cuts this offseason, I think...

This. A lot on here will be mad at this cut or this cut but we are at a point were there will be very tough cuts and that is good it only means our team is better than it has been in several years.

yeah, there's going to be some fan favorites let go, I think, guys who have put in some good years and we're still waiting for them to realize their potential or they are too much of a specialist...I'm thinking mostly of MRob and JHill I guess, but its also likely--maybe even more likely--that some of these young guys that we're all mancrushing on won't even make it past the first cuts (Blount and Vann particularly...).

but i agree that we've gotten better every year. Its been slow--maybe too slow--but when we're not expecting 7th round picks to start, thats a good thing.

Kept Blount For Short Yardage, Sign either Bly or Harris

[ Edited by LeadFarmer on Apr 25, 2010 at 14:31:30 ]
I think the Majority of teams are the same, the big battles for roster spots are at RB and WR:

Blount will make the team, was a 2nd round talent before the punch, I think he will beat out Dixon (not literally) and Dixon will scrap with Coffee (remember this draft was a lot deeper than last years, Coffee IMO would be much lower in this draft) and Robinson loses out.

I think with Ginn and Williams we have brought some pace in, IMO Jones loses his spot (as long as he doesn't blow everyone away at TC) and Hill will be fighting for his, Williams is a steal.

Vann could make the team (similar to Rossum), but he needs to have a great training camp and pre-season, it also depends on the performance of Ginn and Williams returning kicks, as they do have extra use as WRs.

IMO, the most critical remaining move is to re-sign Dre Bly to compete with Paymah for the #4 CB spot. Other than that I think we're pretty much set for 2010.

Great breakdown. I agree signing Bly is very important for this team now. A few comments:

1. I do not consider J. Hill a lock at wide receiver. Nothing in the past 12 months indicates he is a favorite of the coaching staff. He MUST stay healthy for all of TC or I think he's gone. His saving grace may be his work on special teams.

2. Brandon Jones will also likely make the team if he stays healthy, but he has to be feeling the pressure due to the size of his contract. If he doesn't distinguish himself I hope Zeigler or Long can step up as a big possession receiver behind Morgan.

3. Baas may not make it. Not because he gets beat out, but because the team may not plan to resign him after this year and would rather give the spot to a guy with a future on the team.

4. I don't think we keep 5 RB/FBs. I think we go with 4. Byham can play Hback and ST. Robinson is a valuable ST player, but this team has too much talent to justify his roster spot now.

5. I think we keep 5 OLBs not 4 (with the extra spot freed up by cutting one extra RB). I think the team is still very high on Briggs. He has put on a lot of weight this year. Also he has plenty of ST value.

6. We will keep 4 not 5 ILBs. McKillop and Wilhelm battle it out for the last spot / special teams player. McKillop may win on youth alone. There just isn't a lot of value keeping both of those guys on the roster.

7. With the extra spot from keeping 4, not 5, ILBs I think we keep an extra CB (5 total). 4 CBs on the active roster is for sure not enough. Hopefully the first 4 includes Bly. Given Reggie Smith can play CB in an emergency but we will count him as a safety, I think the 5th CB could be Vann. Other possibilities are a vet who gets cut from another team or Harris returns to action.

8. 5 safeties is a lot, although Reggie Smith can also play some CB. Curtis Taylor is going to have play very well in camp to justify a spot. If we keep 4 safeties we make room for Harris/vet free agent plus Vann as a returner and emergency CB.

I like this a lot, I only have 2 changes. I think Michael Lewis is done (concussions) so Curtis Taylor makes the team over him. Taylor Mays starts day one which allows this to happen. I would also rather have Michael Robinson as our 5th RB/special teams beast/emergency QB instead of Nate Davis holding a clipboard.

If the coaching staff can actually get Mays ready in time for week 1, this would be ideal as Lewis cannot play ST and Curtis was quite good in that regard. However, I have serious doubts. The guy needs a LOT of coaching.

As for Davis: You are almost entirely alone on that one. I respectfully disagree.

Exactly what I said today to my Cowboys fan friend, but I told him to watch that every team will be cutting some good football players with this deeeep draft.

Just look at TO; he doesnt have a job!
C. Wallace I believe will not make this team

Laboy and Bowman make the 53

J. Hill better make the team!

MRob, I love you, but I think its time to say goodbye

Can someone please step up and longsnap so we can keep Vann on the roster?

Roman is gone, probably to the Dolphins

Ricky Jean-Francois I cant figure out

We need another CB!, but we all know that!
Lot of doubters about Kyle Williams. Mark it down, he will make the final 53.
