Great suggestion. In a capless year and before training camp, let's cut a player to save money. Hopefully, none of you guys have joined in the various Cheap Yorks threads.
Or we can be sensible. We can see how he looks in camp and the pre-seasons. Because hanging on to him won't stop us renegotiating contracts or signing other players. And our receiver corps is actually not that great.

Capped or not, there is only so much salary budget to go around.. The 49ers are not a high revenue team and Yorks are not Paul Allen. He is 5th or 6th on the depth chart and has limited ST value, if any. I would rather dump this guy now and reallocate the $$ to resigning VD..

Cutting a player now isn't going to have any effect on resigning Davis. Cut him if he's not one of the best 52 players when it comes time to make that decision, not for salary concerns.
It's not like he makes that much $$$ in the first place and if he's cut in 2010 he'll be due his guaranteed money anyways, the largest portion of which we'll be paying him this year whether he's on the team or not.

The only problem? The Niners rarely use 3 WR sets with our double-TE scheme. So, in the end, it really doesn't matter very much, compared to the productivity of our number 1 and 2 WR's.
I'm glad someone ells was think this. how offten is the #3 wr really going to get on the field? It would be nice if they did it more but last yr they hardly ever went 3 wr.
