If we only had a pass rush

like one guy mentioned, we had several games where their OLine was a turnstyle. which boosted the numbers. our pass rush is not bad, but we need a guy who will collapse the pocket from the inside. and who knows maybe a rangy safety will do the job.
We had 24 sacks against the Rams, Cardinals, and Lions. We need more sacks against the good teams.

Correction: Jaguars, not lions.

If we score a little more, which we most likely will, we will have the chance to get to the qb's more because we will have some leads in games, not to mention our run D is tops in the league

This. Classic example of a stat not telling half the story. While we racked up big team sack numbers in some games, we were completely absent in many other key games that made the difference in us sitting at home watching other teams partake in the playoffs. Total team numbers do not tell the story esp. when many of those sacks came from the d-line, CB's and blitzing safeties as well as quite a few from the inside LB blitz. Having this balance attack along with at least one or two dominant OLB would take this defense AND secondary to a whole other level. Make no Nolan-smoke-screen about it, we're not there yet!

We are 4th in the league with sacks. Most people just wants a dominant player to get in the double figures in the sack catagory.

An improved secondary will put just the slightest hesitation by opposing quarterbacks and receivers which will in turn create more sacks. If we get a guy like JPP, Morgan, or Graham in the draft, then great. But please, please a RT and LG early.

If the top OT's are gone by the time the Niners select at 13th and Joe Haden is still on the board. I would love for the niners to grab him and trade back with there 17th pick and get a late 1st and a 3rd round probably(i dont know how the vaule charts work). And select Brandon Graham or maybe Kindle from texas.

NO.

Those were some bad ass pics of Brooks.
Some defense statistics

We were #3 in sacks - 4 behind Minnesota which was #1

We were #1 in forced fumbles

We were #11 in interceptions

Points per game allowed 17.6

Pretty good defense, a little more speed in the backfield and we will be a top ten defense maybe top 5.

Points scored per game was 20.6

So we need to improve on points scored, time of possession, 3rd down conversions. Oline will do a lot for us, and more unpredictable offense, playcalling.

The Cards were a good team this year. We also had 3 sacks on Manning. That is only one example, but it's not like we were unable to get sacks against good teams.

NINERS pass rush was good with room for more improvement. I would of though our defense was ranked around 9 or 10th in the league witnessing the way we played against teams with good O/L. Last season our young defense IMO was showing the rest of the NFL that we will be a force to recon with. Hopefully NINER D will improve on taking care of better offenses and get a #1 spot this season and many more to come.
If Soap edged out Manny, and if Manny wasn't always in coverage, he would have more sacks.
we still could use another guy.

Actually, we need better coverage from the strong safety position.

That would allow us to bring our inside backers more frequently on ILB blitzes.

The problem with our team on the defensive side of the ball in the last half of the season is that we lost Nate. He's not as physically gifted as other #1 corners, but he's one of the best at pressing receivers and jumping routes. With Nate gone, Manusky was less willing to bring inside pressure for fear of getting beat deep (especially with a new starter at FS and Roman filling in at SS). That changed the mentality of our defense...and they weren't able to get back the same spark they had early in the year.

As it oertains to sacks, Manusky is building a pass rush the smart way...with scheme. A scheme pass rush works because it is easier to replace one guy in an effective scheme than a superstar that does it all by himself.
