If someone's offering a 1st for Gore then I think you gotta take that at this point.
DISAGREE. Proven commodity to roll the dice. I think not. Especially when we already have two picks.
On the topic though. This wouldn't make sense for any team.

Don't believe everything you hear...just because someone says something, don't get all carried away. Franklin's not going anywhere...he wants to play in SF, but does want to get paid among the top NT's in the game. Now being franchised, he is. They'll get a deal done. Look, we already have two 1st rd picks...make the most of them and we'll be fine. The worst Singletary should come out of the 1st round with is one of the top OT's and a BPA. That's a lot better than most teams will do.

There will be no trade for Franklin.

I really think we should keep AF around, but if we trade him we'd pretty much have to switch to a 4-3. Unless they think Balmer is ready to start at NT, which I kind of doubt. But 3 first round picks? Holy s**t we could have a really good draft. And if Scotty could get Berry out of it, or if he could get 3 guys similar to Crabtree or Davis, we'd be much improved. This is a really deep draft. I'm on the fence honestly, but I'd be kind of shocked if a team deals a first for Franklin.

Fear of what another player may think of your personel decisions is the WORST reason to keep a guy on the roster. Willis is a beast, but you can not allow one player to dictate what the GM does. Soon as you do that player has too much power and he becomes a problem.

The concept of trading any solid player for an unknown quantity is kind of ridiculous. People seem to get too caught up in the draft. Most of you are forgetting that nearly half of all 1st round picks bust. Hence, why trade a good (or great) player, whom you are familiar with, and whom you know what they offer (or can't offer), for somebody with more question marks than answers?
I'm glad we have 2 1st round picks, but 5 years down the road, it's possible that one of them doesn't pan out. And whether they do or not, they will get PAID...........well.

Because we need to think past next year.
The tag is a one year deal and if we can't get his agent to do a reasonable LT deal, than we're probably better off in the long run trading him than letting him walk next year for nothing.
we can just tag him again next year
True, but the cost escalates each time. The tag is just a bandaid.

I understand the reasoning, just don't like the idea of trading him AT THIS POINT...

Fair enough. I can understand that.

Well it only makes sense to trade him if they think we have someone that can step in and do good. So who is the backup NT, Balmer or Ricky Jean Francois?

Or if we want to target a guy like Dan Williams in the draft...

I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him at this point. Ever since Singletary took over, Franklin has been a beast in the middle. We have been complaining about NT all the way until that point, so why trade a guy who filled that need?

I would be willing to trade him for a 2nd rounder....Then with the 2 #2's if there is a guy they have rated as a 1st rd talent that may be there in late 20's move back up into the 1st.......
