Yup...but if you read the whole article, you'll find some really interesting points. I was particularly touched by his observation that our secondary looked sharp, but for some injuries.
I was also moved by his observation that Joe Staley is average in pass protection, and a below average run blocker.
You misread, my friend.
LT Joe Staley was a microcosm of the rest of the line: average in pass protection and effective, but not dominant, on the ground.
Can't say I disagree with much this guy said.
So...our secondary looked sharp?
Our line was effective in the ground game? Staley was a microcsm of the line even though he missed half of the season?
Sorry, but I still stand by my initial point: this guy's opinion sure as hell wasn't formed from actually watching the team play. He read a stat line, then came up with some bullsh*t.
He was spot on with Haralson and Lawson, and obviously had heard of Franklin, but he glossed over the line and secondary with some general and vague horsesh*t.
It read like a horoscope. I am underwhelmed.
Can you say, article written under tight deadline anyone?

LOL dude's a f**king dumbass. If Smith's problems are anything it's not his arm, it's his head and holding onto the ball/missing reads at times. But he has a good arm. Also, our secondary was good? SHAWNTAE SPENCER was good, and Goldson made some plays, but Mike Lewis got burned more than once, Goldson had problems wrapping up at times(just watch the GB game) despite his play making ways, Nate got injured and had 1 bad game, and Dre Bly dropped multiple picks. We gave up a bunch of yards through the air despite getting 42 sacks. Staley did a good job before he got injured, sure he's a better pass protector than run blocker but he makes him sound like garbage.
This guy's an idiot.

I think lawson stepped up, just not as much as the fans wanted. And haralson was sold in the run game, and did just barely enough in the passing game.
I think they both showed improvement, but we need more, especially from haralson.

You guys are in denial.... I agree with the needs almost 100%... Didn't read the rest of the article.

I thought it to be pretty accurate as to the team needs. QB position definitely needs more spark/leadership, Offensive line is suspect, Depth at linebacker is not great, etc. I don't see why so many joked about this assessment.

A lot of the analysis is wrong. But some of the top needs are very correct. I don't agree with all but a lot are true. So I have to give the article at least that much credit.

For a paper that doesn't specialize in sports and it's target audience meant for other areas of news, I don't think it's a horrible quick snapshot of the team.
We may disagree on the reasoning of the needs, but for the casual fan it's a good snapshot. We need an OT, QB, etc...it makes sense.

That was one of the very few points that was correct. Staley has been a below average run blocker. He was spot on about Manny and Haralson. Smith doesn't have a weak arm at all. He was way off base on Smith's arm, the secondary and off season needs though.

He was pretty much dead on with everything in the article. The needs list could be adjusted, but no team in the NFL has a definitive needs list. Obviously T is a need, but there are many needs on this team. We could use depth everywhere.
His observations of players was very accurate. Staley has been an average T, though I believe that he could be elite if he put it all together. Alex Smith does not have a great arm people. He has a decent arm, but he is no Jeff George. Gore was underutilized, and the shotgun is not ideal for our personnel, our future, or the HC's philosophy.
